^Did I say a good movie? I said I am going there just for the sheer special effects in it. I am just stating my general opinion of art. I appreciate art that portrays realism, abstract art doesn`t do it for me. But my point is still valid, you mutilate a pig and hang its entrails on canvas and some retard will call it art, and so called art enthusiast will flock over it and call it brilliant, when its nothing but a mutilated pig on canvas. From the trailer 2012 looks like a terrible movie, but I am nevertheless going to enjoy that train wreck, just for sheer special effects value.

art isn`t only about looks, it`s history, politics, science, invention, sociol, economic, technology etc.

Take Andy Warhol`s campbells soup can work, it challenges the conception of mass production, printing technology, what is th difference between art and design, mass consumption, mass media as everyone from working class to the rich can identify the soup can.

Just because you don`t understand a peice of art`s significance, doesnt mean other people don`t value it. Leonardo obviously being significant in not just Europe`s history, but the world`s history. Arguable there`s very few people who have made such an immense contribution to human arts, science and invention, and some people are willing to pay millions to own part of that history.

Adding a name to a picture DOES make it look better.

its hard to justify art to people that just dont like it, i get what your saying neferati, the things some people call art this days is pure shit(sometimes literally). some people look at art and just see colors on a paper. it`s hard for them to understand the emotion and time that went in to every little detail of the painting, and im not saying anyone here doesn`t understand. But i think the reason we value all the old art is partly because of all the terrible excuses for art that are around today(for the most part).

Imagine if I gave you a rock which came from a planet on the otherside of the universe; would you not feel some kind of "buzz" just knowing it has travel billions of light years just to be in your hands, though it is really just a rock like any you`d find here on earth? How much would such a rock be worth, thousands, millions, perhaps billions? It`s not the piece itself which is worth 150 million, it is the history of the piece and the privilege to possess it.

Try sitting down. With a piece of paper and a pen. Try using the pen and draw on the paper. Try to make your drawing look something remarkable. Try not fucking up and making a mistake. Because you either will have to find a way to make up for that mistake using what you know and your pen or start all over again. The result if you somehow achieve it to the end, you could only hope to impress some people if not a lot. That is how hard it is to create art. It`s not as easy as it sounds.

Art is just not a painting either. It could be construction, architecture, and sculpture. The techniques used to make things look the way it look. Human history took fucking millions of years to go from crude cave wall painting and small rock ornaments to the Mona Lisa and the Temple of Athena.

The fucking jewelry, shirts, and pants you were are all derived from art. From the imagination of the people of the times. The techniques the developed, modernized, and improved. Maybe the spider man on your lucky boxers can be considered art.

So saying art is bullshit. Try not looking at the next billboard along the road. Try not watching television. Try not even go on the fucking internet. Try not reading your favorite comic book. It took many fucking years to get to where we are with art and the human imagination. If you can`t appreciate it, you don`t fucking deserve anything.

Now don`t mistake me for an art enthusiast. I took AP Art History in high school. That class was incredibly boring, too much information, and the book weighed 20 times more than the holy bible. I was traumatized by that class. Well, not really. But I`m glad I took something out of it, a small appreciation for art and how it guided us to the modern era. Mind you, I scored a `D` in that class.

Dude how in the world are you even arguing arts worth. It is the most lucrative investment.

No painting is the same, they are all unique and rare that drive up the prices.

The more rare the higher the price. Even if it is a drawing of a piece of hott fermenting dog shit, it would sell millions if it was drawn by a well known and dead artist from hundreds of years ago.
