12-Year-Old Gets Historic Baseball Back

12-year-old Jennifer Valdivia, with the help of attorney Norman Kent, got her baseball back from the Phillies today. Jennifer had caught the historic ball last July at Land Shark Stadium; it was hit by Ryan Howard for his 200th home run. But a Phillies representative traded her an autographed baseball for the much more valuable home run ball.

They do realize that that ball has as much empiric value as ANY OTHER BALL ON THE PLANET, right? Less even considering it`s been used. I`ll never get baseball.

They traded a 12 year old a signed ball worth very little, for a record setting historic ball worth thousands. (apparently).

So they clearly took advantage of a kid. Although i`d expect soon some stupid by-line somewhere on your ticket from now stating anything used by the MLB during the game is team property and you have no rights to any ball you catch.

Oh I get memorabilia. Like how high a price you put on the socks your grandma gave you for christmas, or how dear your kindergarten macaroni craftsmanship diploma is to you. What I don`t get is how you can put such a ridiculous price on a ball that got hit by some guy you don`t even know and most likely never get to know in your life. Not talking about the little girl, she came in direct contact with it, I agree that she should be the one to keep it and I can empathize with her why it`s valuable but for the rest of the people, what the hell?

That ball has a price tag on it because it`s memorabilia, right? Why does it have value for people who weren`t even there, whose memory of it is standing in an armchair, drinking beer, and watching the screen? It shouldn`t have such an absurd price tag.
