Amen.

To Flynn_2006 and Nose_Nuggets:

Interesting that Noam Chomsky calls himself a left libertarian. I think he`s well qualified to make such distinctions, and you should remember that your brand of right-libertarianism has no particular moral authority on anything, it is just one set of opinions among many.

We can`t continue to blame corporate agenda and governments for the world we live in today, people like us have just sat by and done nothing as these things have progressed. We are just as much to blame for the way things are as the powers that be.

Edit:

So before main stream media and the monetary system everything was just peachy? People have known for a long time what is going on, most people in this world don`t even have access to a tv, and the monetary system plays a very small part of their lives mainly because they have no money, but they too just sit by and watch the rich grow richer and they are stuck that way, because people don`t want confrontation, or afraid to be shunned, we created the media we are to blame.

I fully agree that the monetary system is fucked up, but what other systems can we turn too? Just get rid of money and then what? We haven`t invested any time and research into other possible ways of living. Communism may work, but do you really think people will want to give up a high standard of living so that everyone can have an okay standard of living. Socialism is fucked too, New Zealand may do it quite well, but there is so much abuse of the system, people come here have ten kids claim sickness and are earning 60k a year off the system.

What can we do what do we do?? Unless we start thinking and acting we are fucked, stop blaming other things and people for the problem, if we want change we can have it, but we have to do something.

SantaAndFriends:

Actually, are lack of caring or apathy is a biproduct of corporate media. Yes, we are to blame for not caring enough, but we are this way because of the way we have been raised and conditioned by media.

What we can blame hands down is a monetary system that puts profit over people, because that is what we have, and that ALWAYS leads to strife. It will always lead to people doing bad things for humanity so that they can turn a buck for a few.

This transcends everything. There is nothing that has proven to work well for humans(humans first and that means all humans not just some humans) within this monetary system. And the only time it comes close is when it is a nationalized(or socialized OMG!) industry that is very very tightly held in check so that profit for profits sake doesn`t become the standard.

leftism is explicitly incompatible with libertarianism since it partially or totally disavows property rights. anyone who claims to support individual liberties while disavowing property rights is a delusional fool.

the typical feeble-minded leftist on spikedhumor (or spikedpolitics nowadays) thinks supporting property rights means supporting corporatism so it is useless to argue with them. see above comments for examples.

Chomsky always makes interesting and valid comments, but damn, he does ramble on. He jumps from one topic to another and has monotone voice almost void of emotion. If I was having trouble sleeping, I could just listen to one of his lectures :)

did always think that was pretty weird, surely the best thing you can do in order to support troops is to bring them all back home where they won`t get shot at?

^ dmens, you say "leftism is explicitly incompatible with libertarianism ... bla bla bla"

You`re so full of shit your eyes are brown. Do some reading, get some fucking perspective. Your personal twisted view of reality is not the exclusive and authoritative definition of anything. Wikipedia has some pretty solid introductory reading:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian

Non-propertarian libertarianism:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism
http
://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-libertarianism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Geolibertarianism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutualism_economic_theory)

Propertarian libertarianism:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-capitalism
http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minarchism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_
conservatism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarianism_and_Objectivism

from the first link:

"Libertarianism is a term adopted by a broad spectrum of political philosophies which advocate the maximization of individual liberty and the minimization or even abolition of the government. Libertarians embrace viewpoints across that spectrum, ranging from pro-property to anti-property, from minarchist to openly anarchist."

"Usage by anti-property movements:
The French anarchist communist Joseph Déjacque was the first to employ the term libertarian in a political sense in May 1857"

HAHAHA the wikipedia link slinger is here. I was stating an opinion, if you`re gonna call bullshit, at least come up with a legitimate counter-argument (i.e. how is left-libertarianism not a huge oxymoron).

Unfortunately I am all too well acquainted with the twisted notions of liberty of our supposed libertarian "allies" on the left. No amount of mental twister can contradict the fact that abolition of property rights is coercive action against the individual.

I`ll leave it to you do dig up some ridiculous argument against property rights from wikipedia... I predict retarded mumblings about "exploitation" and "equality", with many if`s and but`s.

"I was stating an opinion"

No, you said leftism disavows property rights while libertarianism doesn`t. This is just factually incorrect because libertarianism is a statist ideology, meaning they either believe in taxes or have some magical way of financing the state.

"libertarianism is a statist ideology"

you`re an idiot. libertarians advocate either minimal government or abolition of government.
