I`ve seen this video a few times and it always reminds me how savage and brutal nature is. However, as pharb and Sir David said, this is highly unusual behaviour. It had been a harsh season and the lions were starving - desperate times and all that. The cameramen who filmed it commented they had never seen anything like it before.
And pharb, why capture them? The lions haven`t done anything wrong, only objectable in our view of morality because elephants are aww so purdy. This video simply shows nature in all it`s primal complexity and beauty.

Even with their numbers, I didn`t think the lions had a chance, that one elephant could have out weighed the whole pride. I`ve seen them take calves but never a young adult, especially a male.
