The logic of this video is retarded.

why not come up with a description that doesn`t just repeat the title?
you`re smarter than that. (as evidenced by this video itself)

"apparently, we have a religious fucktard or two hanging about....... "

Who the hell cares? Maybe you should worry about more important things than what other people believe in. You could be spending that time learning something that you know nothing about... say for example, string theory? Or you could try to go build a tesseract?

In any case, who are you to tell people what to believe? Let people do what they want.

People who are pointing out that this video is propagating the oppression of freedom of religion are getting voted down.

Interesting how oppression exists everywhere always.

DON`T TELL ME WHAT TO BELIEVE. I`ll think for myself instead of you telling me.

^ .... Wait.... how is down voting oppression?

No one is being oppressed in this thread, people are expressing themselves and their agreement or disagreement with others opinions.

That`s a good thing.

Too many people jump to "I`m being oppressed" when what they really mean to say is "Freedom of speech is a right....unless you say something against my personal fantasy".

^ Absolutely. And the voting system on Spiked works super good, preventing people from quoting each others posts for every little compliment or put down. I`ve seen lots of forums where that`s the norm, and you quit before going through 10 long pages of 15 deep nested quotes. Rather be downvoted and upvoted than that. It`s concise.

^ Grothesk, this vid is making criticism, not "propagating the oppression of freedom of religion". In fact I think religions have a near monopoly on repression when it comes to pushing their morality and spiritual views on others. This vid is speaking out against religious repression and ignorance, saying we need better wisdom guiding us than what religion has to offer. Criticism cannot be automatically equated with oppression.

Agreed, Exploder. However there is a line with others GOING OUT OF THEIR WAY to tell Christians their beliefs are wrong or ridiculous. It may not be oppression but we`re definitely moving towards it. For example, this video is implying that we FIGHT religion.

BTW, I was not referring to the voting system on Spikedhumor.com at all, was simply referring to a common mindset I hear from people who seem to think that the eradication of religious thought is an appropriate and viable route.

^ I view the eradication of religious thought as appropriate and viable. By better education. Look at some predominantly atheistic countries, religion just can`t gain much traction there in the face of better knowledge. I think we can move beyond religion, and yes I think there is a beyond, just not in the pearly gates or fiery hell sense.

I abhor the idea of using force / violence, it`s unethical and a guaranteed failure with worse backfire than the original religions. Neither could I ever honestly love God at the point of their guns.

But criticism, including insults and derision, hot arguments, and vocal denouncements are all perfectly fair game. Oh, I can`t forget influencing social policy either, which seems perfectly acceptable to religious people, and would be unwise to leave exclusively up to them. I do think that most atheists are learning to be demonstrably more tolerant in many ways though, so I don`t think we will trend to the kinds of violence, transgressions, censorship, harsh brainwashing, guilt trips, etc. that we see from many religious fundamentalists, and to some extent all religions.

Look at radical Islam, and tell me you don`t want to fight religion too, at least on some fronts. As stunningly blind as many of those folks are to their own fanaticism, MOST religions have some similar blind spots even if they are relatively nicey-nice faiths. Hell, any ideology taken too far, including by some atheists, can cross the line.

Compassion is probably that line, and it`s something that we are all built for, except the psychopaths. Many good atheists are living proof that you don`t need the baggage of religion to live in deeply considered and deliberate compassion. And many people are finding that life without religion makes more sense: religion`s hangups can easily interfere with the pursuit of solid ethics / morals / compassion. We find tangible advantages to atheism, and its clarifying effects on our world view.

But, if atheists EVER start the Spanish Inquisition, let me know so I can joi\\\\ ahh... denounce it WITH the religious folks.

Videos Like this remind me of a few things. Most of the "religious" people that the average spiked user is in contact with seem to put a bad taste in peoples mouth.
Also this video reminds me about all the things that we "religious" people are getting wrong.
Now to be fair, you can`t really put all religion in a box, just like you can`t put all science in a box, there is lots of really bad, messed up and frankly dishonest science being done. But science is worth doing in spite of all that because it offers us such massive benefits that it is worth the cost and most of it is good.
I would like to think that some day we could all understand what this God thing really is about, and start to see how it can benefit our lives rather then give us new reasons to hate.
I for one have the view that we can better understand God if we better understand how he works, i.e. the stuff he made. I mean the more we understand the things that we CAN test and CAN see, the better we can understand the things we can`t. The more we understand about physics the better of an idea we get about the structure of an atom, even though we can never see it.
I don`t want to sound like I am trying to covert people ( new stat, how many forums have you saved today?) but i would like to remind people of the verity of religious experience and how not all of us are closed minded simpletons who think that science is the enemy of God. I mean if "Science" can PROVE something is not true then "Religion" clearly needs to understand that and evaluate its posistion. Learning is not dead...I wish more religious people would remember that.

If you come across a group of people that were trying to force a square peg through a round hole wouldn`t you hope that someone would say something to them so they could re-think what they are doing? Now with that example I`m not trying to say that religious people are not intelligent. What I`m getting at is when you see people doing something that you believe is a total waste of time and is also controlling the government, the majority of the population, and causing many things to happen that shouldn`t be happening...a person generally wants to do something to change this in hopes of stopping it from happening.

I always see people ask "why not just let us believe what we want to believe?" That`s not the case. If it was just you believing something there wouldn`t be a problem. The problem arises when what you`re believing in is stopping good things from actually happening and on the flip side also causing a lot of bad things for society in general.

Religion in it of itself is not a bad thing, but what it has become IS. All it should be is a group of people with the same beliefs/faiths being there and comforting each other and sharing their beliefs. Instead it has become a source of power, corruption and war
