Derren`s explanation and his 24 helpers is all BULLSHIT. Occam`s razor.

EDIT: Live video split screen or... an infra-red laser scanner, printing the numbers on thermal ink coated balls. Hint: what`s sitting right behind the balls in plain view?

1. Coat balls with thermal ink, as used in most receipt printers and rolled fax paper. Bright white turns perfect black instantly with just a tiny amount of focused heat. Look at 95% of your receipts from things like gas stations or small card payment machines, they use this ink in the paper.

2. The IR laser scanning projector is sitting in plain sight behind the balls. It was there as he walked in, and everything was set up and calibrated well before hand; nothing has moved even a fraction of an inch.

3. In a few seconds at most, the correct numbers can be printed perfectly by the well focused laser scanner. The biggest delay is the assistant entering the numbers in a computer. He has many seconds for this to happen.

4. All assistants and technical consultants sign STRICT non-disclosure contracts with very high penalties for non-compliance. The truth will NEVER leak.

5. Do the math, it`s all just business. THAT MEANS YOU DO IT AS CHEAPLY AS POSSIBLE WITH NO RISK OF FAILURE. Live printing the balls is the cheapest way, and the only guaranteed way. His net business profits are minus his expenses, and crucially dependent on his continued APPEARANCE of wizardry. The hiring and tricking of the 24 helpers is just part of the necessary smokescreen, it`s cheap enough, and continues the deep meta illusion that is his brilliant career.

6. All the other explanations would be more expensive. Filming all the combos, tampering with the lottery, etc. A video system or a laser system could be rented.

7. All his past illusions with long hours of many retakes just improve the smoke screen. This was an inexpensive illusion in time and money for him. He had alot of holiday in that year.

If his methodology were as stated, then an underlying para-psychological explanation would be the only possible explanation, because no such thing as crowd-wisdom or statistics has any physical basis to beat 14 million to one odds. I think we can all safely rule that out.

Whatever the methodology was, he has "cheated" anyway, as he could have shown the numbers before the lotto show was aired! He said BBC has the right to air the numbers first, however, he would not have aired the numbers but only a prediction, which of course would not gave had any influence on players as you can only participate until several hours before the draw.

As always it was clever entertainment though and he is a good actor doing a good show, making people wonder and think.

I don“t like the comments about cheap tricks above as all supposedly supernatural wizardry are only illusions made for entertainment. I think this was a very good one and he deserves credit for it, regardless of the pricetag!

Absolutely daftcunt.

Lotto machines stop selling tickets at 7:30pm, the draw was made at around 10:35pm.

Either way, I can`t wait for his next show. He says he will air a subliminal film which will make people who watch it unable to stand up from their seats.

I don`t know what`s more sad, the people who sit and believe anything Derren Brown tells them or the people who try to come up with retarded ways one could replicate his tricks.

The only way Darren Brown could prove he can predict the lottery numbers is by actually winning the lottery, two or three times in a row.

This is five seconds of sleight of hand and 15 minutes of misdirection. The real illusion takes place where he apparently convinces a room full of people that they are predicting the numbers themselves. Just like he convinces an audience of thousands that he can walk on broken glass and feel no pain.

^ Yes. If I could be bothered to do the math, it might be probable that they would get some numbers right. Don`t know, but doing the 24 people live is the cool trick, unlike his special effects publicity stunt on live TV.

Derren Brown is a GENIUS. Using interpretive science and logical thinking to sell his magic. The fact that people believe him means he succeeded and magic is still alive.

Explaining how the bunny came out of the hat and making skeptics believe is so much harder then saying "Abra Kadabra!" He does not treat the audience like fools, and instills a yearning to question everything (including dogma). However, he uses the mystery of his tricks to demonstrate the mystery of how nature itself operates.

As an entertainer, this guy compared to people like Chris Angel is in a league of his own.
