Religion Kills Free Speech

A billboard with the message "Imagine No Religion" is no more.

Sign company General Outdoor removed the sign by the Freedom From Religion Foundation on Thursday after it received a request by the city to do so.

According to Redevelopment Director Linda Daniels, City Hall had received 90 calls of complaint since Wednesday.

This is sickening censorship and just goes to show how mildly whining religious drones will get offended by ANYTHING. There is NOTHING OFFENSIVE here. "Oh noessss! The idea that people aren`t religious or the concept of no religious? OMG IM OFFENDED"

I emailed that coward of an advertisement company and politely explained to them that freedom of speech (while governmental-based enforced only) being censored in any means by religion is offensive, not three words proposing the idea of no religion.

like richard dawkins said `so what if your offended?, i don`t try to stop everything that offends me`.

the idea the atheism is a religion is ridiculous!, it is completely the opposite a lack of belief of religious dogma itself.

I dunno, saying atheism isn`t a religion...its a bit tongue in cheek, Dawkins has already described me as a "tea kettle agnostic", but I feel like Atheism is a religion because it claims to know.

Even if I think there is no god, I don`t claim to know that there isn`t a god. It`s a little difference to some people, but it`s a huge difference to me. One of the things I dislike about main stream religion is that they claim to have the answer, and people flock to that answer instead of thinking. It almost makes me feel like Atheism is religion-lite. It comes with all the familiar afterlife answers and none of the guilty after taste.

atheism DOES NOT KNOW & neither does religion THATS THE POINT.

you cannot prove a negative argument - you cannot disprove god, just as you cannot disprove father christmas that doesn`t by default make it true.

Right. It doesn`t make it not true. Thats where "tea kettle agnostic" comes from. It`s actually a slight, but I personally think it has it merits. The chances that there are a tea kettle orbiting Jupiter are infinitesimal. But you can`t prove that it isn`t there unless you check. Dawkins` thinks it`s as absurd to believe in a god as it is to believe there is a tea kettle orbiting Jupiter. Statistically it`s probably even more absurd.

But atheism champion`s itself as an appendage of science, and I dislike that. As a form of belief it still takes a leap of faith. It doesn`t matter that religions leap is a canyon and atheism leap is a puddle, you`re still reaching a conclusion without evidence to the contrary. I`m not trying to prove anything, existence or non-existence. For me the jury is out. Because I feel that is how science works. I don`t treat the two ideas as equals, but I also don`t parade an idea around as a certainty just because it`s likely.

^i can disprove god in millions of ways. read the bible, then learn some science....it`s not that hard. I`m actually saddened in my faith for humanity that people think this is a 2 sided argument.

Religion is an invention of man. I know this b/c throughout history isolated communities that where not spread the word of god via human sometimes make a religion. The fact humanity dates before "the almighty religion" is quite odd....in fact, illogical....but i wouldn`t want to make you imagine, or think outside the box now would i? I might have to take my comment down for making you do that if a christian saw this.

^ I should know by now that I shouldn`t even bother reading anything you say, but I just keep doing it to myself. If I die from an aneurysm one day, it`s going to be you`re fault. One day I`ll get a bottle of harsh whiskey, sit down, and explain to you why I always tell you I hate you. But until then it`s basically because your mind is a train with no windows, the engineer is 7, and there`s only one-track and by god it`s narrow. I mean, fuck! There`s evidence of Hinduism in neolithic period (some might call this humanity), and plenty of records being the oldest religion by thousands of years. But of course when you talk your shit, your shit is talking Christianity - one of the youngest of the religions.

This happened to the billboard because the wording is discriminating and misleading to the actual topic.

If I made an organisation about how black people in the US should get special stuff for being a key part of the established economy, that without them the US may have been a poorer country... But then I worded it like "Imagine if there was no black people". Of course it`s going to get fucking taken down.

This isn`t against freedom of speech at all. If they simply said "Take religion out of politics" it would have been fine. But no, they had to display in public on a fucking billboard something that most religious people (a majority of the population) would interperet as an attacking discrimination on their beliefs.

They`re were just stupid.

Token god and The God mean pretty different things to me. And you`re right, The God, as written in tons of different religions ect. ect. can pretty much be shown to be inconsistent and fallacious and all the other arguments.

But Atheism doesn`t split hairs. Or at least not the way i`ve been lead to believe it defines itself. They simply come out and say "there`s nothing" and I don`t know if there`s nothing. I haven`t solved the mind/brain problem or ever experienced death. I can`t be sure there isn`t a higher order of being out there, maybe even if its one that doesn`t know or care about us. There may very well be nothing, but the more physics I take and the more lectures I watch the more sure I become that I can`t be sure of anything. There`s more twists and turns to the reality of our universe then any of us know yet.

For some people God is even just a phenomenon, the way Einstein used the word God. More of a force of nature or a grand order.

Disproving Catholicism doesn`t automatically prove atheism. There`s an entire spectrum of belief you have to negate before you can arrive at atheism, and I don`t even know what side of the line many of those systems would end up.

You don`t "arrive" at atheism, nor do you "prove" atheism. Atheism is square one, first stop on the block. Everyone is born an atheist.

People are then convinced and indoctrinated that "BEING `X`" (insert religion/god/pantheon/other here) is (creator/savior/Lord/supreme god/better than everyone else`s god). The fact of the matter is, you`re "religious" in one way, and "atheist" in another. I know a ton of atheists on this site. Atheists against Thor, Zeus, Zoroastrianism, etc.

You also claim that "atheism" hasn`t solved "x" problem. Firstly, that`s not the job of atheism. Secondly, they know how the mind/brain problem works at a basic level. It`s electrical impulses switching off in the brain. Personality, memory, feelings... all of these can be changed by snipping or altering a portion of the brain.

You`re not allowed to plug "god" into an equation just because you`re ignorant of a function, cause, or effect. For instance, say you`re at your computer in a dark room. Suddenly, the monitor goes black. You are officially ignorant to the problem.

Do you clap your hands violently and demand the spark goblins return power immediately? Or if you`re Christian, do you ask God why he turned off your monitor, and beg forgiveness from his righteous retribution?

NO! You start doing science! But you do it so fast you don`t even know it.

Hypothesis: Perhaps pressing the power button will cause a reaction.

Testing: Monitor`s power button is still lit, pressing turns it off.

Conclusion: Power button functions, but screen is off. Power is not the cause.

Hypothesis 1: Based on rudimentary knowledge of monitor connections, the cable to the video card may be loose.

Testing 1: I will check the connector at both the monitor and computer, and press them into the device.

Conclusion 1: Success! The cable connected to my card was loose. In a preventative measure, I will make sure to screw the pins in.

This is part of the fundamental reason why Atheists won`t just let people say "IT WAS GOD".

Hypothesis 1: I have angered God.

Testing 1: I will pray to him for forgiveness.

Conclusion 1: Monitor still off. Perhaps I am being punished for staring at that one tranny GIF posted on Spikedhumor two days ago.

It actually turns out that capitalism restricts free speech, not religion. The atheist group could easily erect their own billboard (not pay for one) and freely quote John Lennon all they want. It`s the BILLBOARD COMPANY that took down the sign due to complaints.

With free speech you are allowed to say whatever you want but you WILL face the consequences from others who take offense at what you say. It`s the high cost of capitalism.

Im not sticking up for religious groups but they do sponsor alot of humanitarian projects with both their time and their money, what do athiests groups do? as shown here they like to spend their time and money showing everyone how smart they are.

How about these athiests try to outclass religious groups and use their money and time instead to help the sick and needy instead of wasting it on signs in the effort to win an egotistical based arguement.

^ people can still do good without religion. But religion can be done without good. Let`s not remind ourselves how many people died despite of their stone age dogmatic cult following they called religion. i.e human sacrifice, the holly crusade, subjugation of others, destroy scientific endeavor in the name of the lord, free speech censorship, protect its own child molesters, self entitlement of granting laws favouring one specific gender, diminish critical thinking and Mother Teresa(yes she`s sadist and a major hypocrite.)
