David Attenborough and Global Warming

David Attenborough, once uncertain about Global warming, explains why it must be true. Certainly more interesting (and shorter) than an Inconvenient Truth

yeah, that wasn`t him explaining it, it was some dude explaining it, and him agreeing with it. nothing really new...

even if earth wasn`t warming from pollution, we should still put an end to it, and recycle more stuff, damn.

"And as this ambiguous red graph clearly and irrefutably shows without a fraction of doubt that global warming is true."

Putting David Attenborough next to it doesn`t really add to the credibility. I can make a descending cgi red graph too and stick Hawkins next to it as well, you know. This is a very cheap publicity stunt. What bullshit.

i dunno how convincing that is either... for me it was 3 questions:
does CO2 keep heat in the atmosphere? yes.
do humans put huge amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere? yes
is there more CO2 in the atmosphere now than there used to be when it was just nature doing it? yes.
then clearly global warming is caused by humans.
can anybody convincingly argue that any of those 3 questions is a `no`?

Why is this rated so low? Although it may be a bit short and relying on a single source of questionable data I think its an excellent start for a discussion between all the half educted spikers like myself!
Unfortunately this video shows that even people like Sir Atternborough can be bought (even if it is for a possibly good course): As far as I am aware of, there is no reliable "climate model". How on earth can anybody think they can reproduce an almost infinitely complicated natural occurance like climate change over centuries in a computer model when at the same time no one is actually capable of reliably predicting the weather on a day to day basis. Take into account that the temperature data collected nowadays is very accurate as opposed to data collected even 50 to 70 years ago (just imagine someone in the arctic sitting in his research lab in the 1930ies thinking "hmmm, yesterday was -40ºC, surely today it`s the same"). In addition research like this is funded by people and organisations that expect a certain result (be it environmental or industrial), hence due to the complexity of the issue the results can be directed towards the desired outcome. As the majority of such studies are funded by environmental groups it is not surprising that mostly similar results are achieved. PLUS: Studies on behalf of petrol or car companies are simply ridiculed as being biased whilst hardly anybody dares to question studies that result in "proof" of CO2 emissions are to blame!

Make no mistake, I am NOT saying that the recent "global warming" has nothing to do with pollution, however to prove that it has is a still unsurmountable task.

Clearly some global warming is caused by humans, we don`t really know how much. Even if it wasn`t, we would still need an alternative to fossil fuels. Environmentalism is good, but I really don`t like the hysteria and the industry around global warming. Keep it scientific, no politics please.

I thought our cows produced more CO2 than all the cars combined?
Not sure but it wouldnt be surprising with the amount of cow meat we eat ( me incuded yum yum )

^Yeah, most gas emissions are done by animals, with cars contributing only with a fraction. There`s no doubt that Global Warming is enforced by us humans but it`s only an insignificant percent that most certainly won`t lead to the devastating consequences activists believe in. It`s really no secret that this whole Global Warming business was blown to this proportion as an advertising stunt by Al Gore. NEVER trust politicians.

Lord-69,
cows don`t produce CO2 as much as methane gas when they burp. Methane gas is at least 4 times worse than CO2.

the one thing i took from high school science was

"correlation does not equal causation."

so. nice graph. nice explanation. but irrefutable proof? hardly. By that same function you can directly relate the increase in global temperatures to the reduction in the amount of Pirates world wide. just because two sets of data correlate does not mean there is a direct cause and effect.

Never mind the fact that every planet in our solar system has been increasing in temperature severely since the 70`s. Never mind that NASA`s own research shows that the the sun is the hottest it has been in the past thousand years.

if you want a graph instead look at this

roxies.png

the sun has cycles. this hot cycle started around the time of the industrial revolution. but who the hell am i. go read the NASA reports your damn selves.

David Attenborough, unfortunately has proven what his agenda has been all along. Working for the Global Elite to give a positive spin on taxing people, on the very air we breath...

velocity73R: your welcome to your opinion and i welcome you to share it. but COME ON. Attenborough is nothing short of a fucking gift to our generation. This mans contribution to nature, science, and teaching us about them is the stuff of legend. I`m not willing to short all that because the guy has some misconceptions about the biggest crooked marketing scheme in the history of mankind.

Thanks for that link Nose Nuggets.

To me global warming also sounds like the biggest crooked marketing scheme, or another environmental crusade for political purposes.

There was a video of a guy comparing sunspot and temp to greenhouse effects and said that they were looking at the data the wrong way.The Increase of solar activity, was a cause for the global higher temperature. And explained how most of the heat the earth gets is absorbed by our oceans and basics on how increased sea temperatures result in lower CO2 solubility.

That is to say that there is evidence that because of higher temperatures there is higher levels of CO2 in the air.

oh and on the "even if earth wasn`t warming from pollution, we should still put an end to it, and recycle more stuff, damn."

Humans need to better manage their resources. Of that I have no doubt. And is probably the biggest issue that is not nearly talked about enough.

1st law of Sustainability:
Population growth and/or growth in the rates of consumption of resources cannot be sustained

Yeah, we SHOULD recycle more. however there isn`t much intensive to do so.
