Theres a huge hole in universal health care. The educational system will not be able to provide the sufficient amount of doctors for the greatly increasing amount of patients. Also i dont see any potential med student wanting to pay from 70K and up a year to go through med school, and then get paid like a nurse does today. Today there`s a deficit of almost 200,000 nurses in the US, and i could imagine that the deficit of doctors is close to that. The only way to increase the amount of specialists is by decreasing the amount of education they get, and with the huge amount of sometimes ridiculous law suits they go through, there wont be many left. MRI`s X-ray`s and all the rest of the services we get the next day from private insurers, will change to the services we have to wait on a list for a month before we get one from government insurance. Universal health care sounds nice but its one of those make or break projects, where as if it breaks its gonna cause a huge tear in the medical system. I dont think its worth the risk. And im not being heartless, im being rational.

^ same as above. Not having freedom is about favouring one group of people while forcing another group of people to pay for the benefits. There`s no such thing as free lunch. Somebody somewhere has to work to produce the goods and services.

The only thing I can think is whether or not the US government can afford to introduce this health care. Medicaid will be ballooning as the baby boomers get older. I`m all for universal health care but I wonder if all this spending has really made any tangible difference.

Universal healthcare would be awesome, but the govt will manage to turn it into genocide.
I really cant consider it anything more than hype, with all the wars you`re currently paying for, and all your military bases. So you quickly try to forget about your last 2 term responsibilities.
Keep paying for your wars

In theory Universal healthcare is beneficial because it`s supposed to be a benevolent insurance company that has great buying power and acts in the interest of the people rather than then shareholders. Since government runs healthcare, government can be voted out if they screw it up where as in private healthcare, you are at the mercy of the CEOs who act in in the interest of the stock price.

However, Private health care (AGAIN IN THEORY) allows for competition and more innovation in the medical industry. although it costs more, much of that money is re-invested in order to create new treatments or modernize processes to make healthcare more efficient.

In Practice, universal healthcare does reduce costs which reduces profits for medical companies and hospitals and doctors which usually leads to less innovation in treatment and a lack of doctors and medical staff due to the demands of the job. Unless you get paid an ass load of money people dont` want to be doctors. Fatigued doctors and stressed medical systems in certain hotspot areas lead to reduced service in some areas and great service in others.

Private healthcare, like all businesses, winds up becoming a corporate monster that jacks up the prices and screws the little guy. While it is more advanced technologically in their treatments, only really rich people have access to it anyway. Large portions of the population are excluded from full treatment and many get no treatment at all or go bankrupt.

In Universal healthcare, the inequality stems more from local and federal government incompetence where as in private healthcare, the inequality stems from socioeconomic class and social status.

I met a woman from Sweden yesterday. She asked me why Americans don`t want healthcare (and education) for all its citizens like they have in Sweden. I told her that we have a fair number of greedy bastards who would rather have a few extra dollars and watch their neighbors grow poor from lack of health insurance, than spend a few extra tax dollars so that everyone has good access and a higher standard of living. BTW, I just read that Sweden has one of the highest standards of living in the world, even though they have high taxes.
