A Kinder, Gentler Philosophy of Success

Ted Talks: Alain De Botton: A Kinder, Gentler Philosophy of Success

Alain de Botton examines our ideas of success and failure -- and questions the assumptions underlying these two judgments. Is success always earned? Is failure? He makes an eloquent, witty case to move beyond snobbery to find true pleasure in our work.

see what he calls for is socialism with a capitalistic economic mentality. this meritology sounds like it could have potential if people could actually cohabit with each other instead of being jealous of neighbors new car.

I don`t post here much but always enjoy these kinds of clips being posted here.

There is many ways humans need to change there views of each other to help evolution move forward, and reach a higher understanding of who we really are and what our ultimate purpose is.

It`s quite easy really.

Success in life = Doing what you want.
Failure in life = Not doing what you want.

There`s no rules in life that say mkaing money means you`re successful. Some people want to live their days walking the world with a backpack. If they`re doing it, they`ve succeeded. Others want to work for most of their days so at the end of those years they`re rich and comfortable. If they did it, they`ve succeeded. Some people just want to eat poop. If they are, they`ve succeeded.

I like this guys view of things. "What is a snob? A snob is a person who takes a small part of you and uses that to come to a complete vision of who you are".

Fuck snobs never judge a book by its cover, bc you don`t know someone until you know the full story.

P.S - good call on that saltesc^^

Thankfully my attribute of extreme arrogance prevents me from being influenced by other peoples thoughts, ideas and opinions on success, therefore I suffer from no anxiety.
