This is cosmology not astronomy. Also the known universe spans 14 billion light years away, light didn`t have enough time from the big bang till now to reach us further than that.

^ Firstly with the Princeton definition of Astronomy as:

-the branch of physics that studies celestial bodies and the universe as a whole-

I think it`s perfectly acceptable to title the video `Astronomy is cool`, more people know the meaning of Astronomy and you`re really an assclown for picking bones like that.

Secondly, the known Universe does not span 14 billion light years, as the video stated it in fact spans at least 93 billion light years. Had you studied Einstein`s theory of General Relativity you would know that the expansion of space between two galaxies is not limited by the speed of light and therefore the amount of time that has passed since the Big Bang holds no specific bearing on the size of the Universe.

5/5 I love videos on space, so interesting!

^ No, didn`t study that much physics but I`ve studied cosmology. I also wasn`t talking about the size of the universe but the size of the known universe visible to us... assclown.

Okay, so lets assume that you didn`t say "Also the known universe spans 14 billion light years away" - which it doesn`t - and instead assume that you were referring to the "size of the known universe visible to us"

Again, the size, or more correctly, the diameter of the known universe is at least 93 billion light years, this is of course visible to us otherwise we wouldn`t have been able to record it.

I love it because so much is still can not be explain, so much more to be discover. I hope in my life time human will be able to travel to other stars, well, I can dream can`t I? :)

makes you think that all these meaningless squabbles we have every day, are for what? we are just tiny specs in a 93bil light year wide hole.

^ Aye, but you don`t see on a 90 billion lightyear scale do you? Scale (or anything I suppose) is only important in relative terms. On the other hand, you`re somewhere around 2x10^18 times the size of a virus but that doesn`t stop one setting off a sequence of events leading to your death and/or missing a week of work.

the expansion of the known universe most definately happened faster than the speed of light.

currently, we can see the big bang. its how we know it happened.

thats right folks, stuff thats happened forever agos light is just getting here.

how we see the universe is definately not how it actually is. the further into the universe you look, the further back in time you are seeing.

Man i love this video. Everyone who likes this video needs to go out and buy a copy of Hawking`s A Briefer History Of Time.

however its also incredibly gut-wrenching when you come to the gripping conclusion that the guys who call the shots would spend trillions bailing out their friends while NASA gets a paltry 17 billion.
