Do the republicans ever want to be in power again?
Sensibilities in America have changed, Obama won the election by a pretty staggering margin.. There is a large backlash against the republican party and it is now pretty much looked down upon as the `nasty party` (just like the conservative party in Britain a few years back). They are NOT going to gain much support doing ridiculous hit campaigns like this...this is only going to appeal to the really far right foaming at the mouth republicans who were on their side to begin with, it will not win them new supporters. If they really want to have a good shot at government they will probably have to conduct a vast image change (again like the conservatives in the uk have had to do), leaving stupid campaigns such as this behind. Then again given the talk of possibly selecting Rush Limbaugh as a candidate for the next election this is a lesson they clearly have not learnt and will pay the price for it.

When you loose an election by a large margin it is worth thinking about why you lost rather than continuing head first down the exact same path.

@chrissyChiChi

THe republican party is built and structured to operate that way. It won`t change after 1 election. I mean the dems have always used that moral high ground approach and it didn`t work with Kerry. But they tried it again with OBama and it worked that time. The republicans won`t change tactic unless they lose to OBama and the next democratic candidate after him or Obama wins the next election by a landslide in their "conservative stronghold" states.

Until that happens the republicans will continue to be like this. Although a lot of republicans in the party hate these tactics, guys like Rush Limbaugh and Cheney have too much power in the party so they can`t oppose it unless they are hugely embarassed and lose their influence.

Chuckus, this is true, they probably will not change after one election. However bearing in mind the kind of defeat they recieved, the necessity for this change is almost inevitable.

They lost previously stronghold states like Indiana and Virginia for the first time since 64, and came very close to loosing several others. Not to mention they lost ALL of the all important swing states by around 10%...it was a pretty staggering defeat for them. That kind of situation is not going to be rectified by heading even further down the far right path than before as it is ONLY going to appeal to those who will vote for them no matter what. Unless Obama makes truly catastrophic game changing Bushesque errors this will get them nowhere.
