Speaking as a Canadian I strongly urge that the United States follow this healthcare system. It`s easy to vote against this when you`re not the one in the hospital. Although it may mean slight increase in taxes it`s in direct benefit to the lives of your own. Remember this next time you see someone close to you in dire need.

that percentage includeds cops, fireman , electric company , heath care .


bear in mind canadians also can get private medical insurance which basically isnt really worth it unless you travel a lot or get sick a lot like a chronic illness etc and even then the goverment sill pays for it.

As an American I have been wanting this for years. We get raped by insurance companies who have the sole purpose in charging us more and denying medical coverage. Look up the videos of ex-employees from these criminal companies. To deny us a claim is to make them profit. All systems have some bad sides but ours is terrible....unless your rich.

Canada isn`t perfect, but its about as far away from what the opponents of universal health care will tell you it is.

Seriously though, there are problems with Canada`s health care system too. In some provinces, it was very poorly administered and had very bad quality control because of stupid politicians and the service became very bad. But that can be avoided.

Nobody ever went bankrupt trying to pay their medical bills.

Nobody has ever been kicked out of a hospital because they dont have insurance...

Guns are allowed. But you must do a ton of paperwork, background checks and safety course with practical and written test to be able to have the license to purchase a firearm. And I have absolutely nothing against that.

However what is really annoying for legal gun ownership in Canada is those greedy politicians who are always unjustifiably calling legal gun owners the "bad guys" and threatening to ban guns even though 99.9% of legal gun owners in Canada are completely harmless. This would result in expensive goods that were acquired legally by honest citizens to be seized without compensation. They do that because being "anti gun" in Canada is an easy and cheap way to create political capital and it disgusts me. The real problem is the criminals who buy their guns on the black market (the vast majority of which is smuggled from across the border, NOT stolen from legal gun owners like some lying politicians are saying) which means without having to go through all the trouble that I`ve stated higher. These criminals already own their guns illegally so why would they bother turning them in if guns were banned?

As a Canadian, on my taxes I pay about 500$ yearly towards health insurance. it comes out of my paycheck before i get it, and I`ve never noticed it. know why? because ever since I started working its been this way, i dont need to plan around it, i just calculate my take home pay as my salary. sure it`s a bit lower, but i know I`m not going to loose my life just because of an infection or a broken ankle. that`s worth alot more than a couple hundred dollars a year, to me at least

edit \/ it would be nice to get MRIs or specialists same day, but its hardly ever necessary; and when it is it`s usually available pretty much right away. our system is far from perfect, but I believe it to be a question of tweaking rather than using a system based on dividends and profit margins.

As a Canadian, I find the healthcare system quite terrible. Coverage is nearly universal, but it comes at the cost of high taxes, long line ups and a overall lower standard of care.
I`ve been through the system many times and it takes a 2 months to book a specialist, another month to get a MRI or other test done, and another couple of weeks to get the results.
Many chinese people I know actually fly back to Taiwan or other countries to get treated there for more serious ailments.

Universal = good, but do realize theres quite alot of downsides to it as well

i love the idea that when I get sick or injured, I`m taken care of. I don`t call up an insurance company first, to see if it`s ok for me to get an air ambulance ride because my head came off.

If i bust myself up while doing something risky or stupid, or while on drugs or booze, I`m taken care of. Maybe that sounds dumb, but the priority is getting me back to health, not battling with a damn insurance company.

I`ve had lots of medical imagining done. Given the severity of the conditions, the wait times have been totally reasonable. I got a fucked up cyst on my arm, and instead of getting drunk and letting my uncle cut it out with a pair of scissors and putting it on youtube, I went to the doc, got sent to a surgeon, and got it removed. I went to a leading rheumatologist when I was a kid because my doc thought I had some wierd form of arthritis, I`ve had bone scans, CT scans, I`ve been in the care of a psychiatrist for depression and on medication, and it`s all god damn FREE. I haven`t paid for anything. Nothing. And a homeless guy, or a newly unemployed single mom, they`d get the very same level of treatment as me.

the socialist phobia comes from the conservative myths about the world. they truly believe that communism and socialism re the greatest evils, and so the greatest good must be the opposite- unbridled capitalism a la "survival of the fittest."

they believe, generally, that the winners and losers in the unbridled capitalism system are that way because of an "unseen hand" which basically translates, not in their explicit myth but implicitly in their ideology, the hand of gawd. rich are rich because they are better. poor are poor because they are inferior. if you dont have healthcare you should have been born rich or became a doctor/lawyer. if you don`t have healthcare it`s nobody else`s fault- just plain crazy,
