telomeres is what they should be working on. cell proliferation.

@alifeva1

No, cell proliferation is actually the cause of aging if you think about it. More cells leads to more metabolic processes which lead to more harmful substances (ie free radicals) which affect protein transcription resulting in bad functioning cells and so on. Aging is more like a disease in the likes of cancer, it`s a result of bad cell replication. Our bodies aren`t perfect, if somehow we would find a way to prevent aging then almost certainly all of us would die of cancer granted at a much later time. We can only postpone the inevitable.

^^^no, no, what alifeva is pointing out is that the majority of mainstream anti-aging research is focusing on affecting the telomere length, which has been proposed as a marker of biological aging. Telomere length is predominantly genetically determined, but has several other known determinants: age (shorter telomeres in older people), paternal age at birth (longer telomeres in subjects with older fathers at their birth) and sex (shorter telomeres in men, probably due to a faster telomere attrition). As with resvaratrol treatments in mice, scientists have also been successful in inhibiting telomere attrition in mice and the result has been life spans beyond a well understood statistical median. I agree with the assertion that aging is in essence a series of treatable diseases and conditions affected by many factors which we have only begun to understand.

Research on this should be halted until Barbara Walters dies of old age. This science is useless if another generation has to suffer this woman .

^ precisely Timmy! telomeres are the protective end caps. many medications shrink the length which increases aging and takes a toll on the human body. now if only we could find a way to protect their size while inducing treatment or medication safely.
