I was watching once this tv show where this mother of 4 or whatever was asking the guy that has allegedly killed her oldest daughter (of 25 something) to buy her a house cause it seemed appropriate.

Well, Dante couldn`t have accidentally killed a better person. If close relatives are willing to receive collateral over a family member`s death then they must be erased from society. Those kind of people have no respect for human life, or life in general whatsoever. Those are the sort of people that would sell their own kin for material objects. Simply savage.

"he reached a confidential, financial settlement with areyas family"

this seems like the only situation i would accept this 30 days in prison stuff. he did offer tonnes of money to the family and they ACCEPTED it so he bought his way out of jail sincerely. its like you killed their son, but atleast you made it up to the family buy making them rich. plus its not like he gets off totally free.

1. hes under house arrest for two years
2. suspended license for ever.

he killed someone but he tried making it up to the family and hes still getting punished so why make him suffer fully? if that was an option for me in real life i would gladly take that too.

alright vote me down if you must.

One thing I hate is hypocrite`s, therefore, I`ll admit when I was younger I did drive over the legal limit, the odd time. However, I never killed anyone, but this means I was just lucky. I would guess if people were honest, the MAJORITY, of the population has driven well over the 0.8 limit at least once in their lives. I hate watching these people get up and spew how horrible the driver was for doing this, when I`m guessing they`ve probably done the same[but probably not killed anyone]. It`s different when I hear a child died, or an adult that had died by a drunk driver, who had NEVER drove drunk. In those cases the offender should get the MAX sentence. But if someone gets killed who I`ve personally known to have driven drunk at times, by a drunk driver, I have no sympathy, and that would include myself, if I was to die by a drunk driver. That`s why I`ve told my family if it I ever get killed by a drunk driver to NOT prosecute, for that would make me nothing more than a DEAD hypocrite...

velocity73R I agree. He should know better but then again 90% of us have done it and we got lucky. Beer doesnt make you a rocket scientist. Its sad that it happens but the persons past should be looked at to evaluate punishment. And for the record I hate football so this isnt a defensive gesture.

The truth of the matter is that the guy he killed jumped out into the road while trying to catch a bus I believe, so whether or not Dante was drunk he would have probably hit him reguardless. This is why the punishment is not as harsh as other drunk driving accidents.

Everyone here has heard it before: `money is power`
If you don`t understand what this means, then you have a mental block.
Once you`ve dealt with this block then the sentencing and the rest of the world will start to make a bit more sense.
Ok then, good luck.

Then theres some people, like the woman arguing in the video, who aren`t comfortable with black people having that kind of money. Thats the real issue for her no doubt.

^ I`d have to say your wrong there. Shes part of that that MADD group so obviously its her job to campaign against drunk drivers. Your just another idiot that shouts racism everytime a black person is on the news for a crime.

Fact is the guy broke the law and KILLED someone. Doesn`t matter if your black, white, rich or poor, if you break the law and someone loses their life as a result of it then you should go to prison for a long time and not just get a slap on the wrist.

^is prison going to help though? Has it ever been a helping tool or just to keep really bad people secluded. Is he a bad of a person that we need to seclude him from society and any chances of him even getting therapy since he obviously didn`t mean to hit the guy?

^^ prison isn`t meant as a form of help. it`s meant as punishment. you fucked up and destroyed a life; now it`s time to pay. he may receive help in prison or he may get it after he gets out, but thats beside the point.

when I heard the circumstances of the man crossing the street I wasnt so quick to condemn his act though. sounds like the dude was in the middle of the street in the middle of the night when there were no traffic stops or cross-walks. Of course i`d need more facts to judge, but i`d say a lighter sentence is acceptable while still punishing for the DUI
