I don`t agree with his formula of:

*being aware = must mean you`re smart*

It means you`re PROBABLY not an ignorant, close-minded individual but "smart"? Nah, I don`t see it.

Maybe my definition of "smart" is different.
That and I believe there are many *types* of this "smart".

I think people who are academically smart tend to suck in life more, because all they can do is grab a pen, a piece of paper and solve a mathematical problem. That`s what they were taught to do in schools, in college, in the university.

People, who are "common sense smart" are successful, because they fully realize what people want, what they themselves want and how they are going to do that. Their observational skills can stretch far beyond a piece of paper and they can operate real world data, rather than some variables, printed on paper.

I myself am more of an academically smart person, but I`m trying to master the other sides of smart as well.

Smart people have better things think about than that their hot dog is made out of trimmings(cuts to small to use for other things) of the exact same animal, corn syrup, and preservatives every time they see a hot dog. Smart people understand, think about, and discuss interesting things that dumb people don`t understand and get a greater understanding and appreciation for more things than anyone else, it takes a pretty negative attitude to spend all of your time thinking about aids and genocide when there are so many cool things to think about.

For the most part I thought his argument was pretty retarded, but can guess where he was coming from. I`ve seen many smart people who are super strait laced, and don`t go out and have fun, the ones that in high school really were at the library when their parents asked where they were so late. That`s a personality type not smart people as a whole. Some smart people go sky diving, and blow shit up, and laugh about stupid things, they just have deeper conversations with other smart people in between.

Either that or all the people he knows that are just smart enough to sound smart and have a giant ego about their intelligence, but not intelligent enough to kick it in a good university or job setting. But I think he is just confusing different personalities with intelligence.

I also kind of agree about the different kinds of intelligence, but don`t think that is really what what he is talking about, because I`ve meet people that are brilliant and inept in memorization, physics/mechanical subjects, music, and getting your way on the streets, and each one of them had different personalities than other people that excelled in the same things as them. What they were good at didn`t make them any happier or fun to be around, it was how they acted.

Guess what, dumb people can complain about how smart/great they are and how they can`t make any money, or about what is in their food, it just makes them negative people.

Smart people, like myself, find ways to resolve their problems. Being sad is a problem. Negative people, as funberg said, focus on the problem and bitch and moan and sulk. They practically relish in wrestling with the problem instead of overcoming it.

I think Adam is not academically smart but he realizes the respect given to those who are, and he is jealous of that and so he tries to find their negatives, over emphasizes it, manipulates its actual truth -- all in an effort to justify his own inability.

^The reason that a theory like this is popular because it is a cop out for so many people. Depressed people get to say that they are `realists` and that if other people were as smart as them, they would be depressed too. And dumb people get to say I`m glad I`m not smart(only because they don`t want to put in the work to be smart) because smart are sad and I would rather be happy.

`It`s not your fault you aren`t educated, you just don`t want to spend energy to become sad like those pathetic smart people, or it`s not your fault that you are a negative person, if you didn`t know so much, you would be happy like those pathetic dumb people.`

God forbid you actually take your life into your own hands and do something about it, instead of finding ways to blame everything on things out of your control.
