advice to republicans , sell your shares in the private health care companies now! If they don`t they can all go to hell for all I care. (except Ron Paul)

I hate that republicans are apposing this on a "free market" platform. It makes no sense, they argue that competition keeps the health care as good as it is in America, while flatly rejecting competition from a government health care.

I love being able to send a letter to my sister on the other side of the country, picked up at my house and dropped off ate her apartment, for 42 cents in two days, and there are companies that compete for my service which I often choose for other packages, but it is insane to outright reject a government program that will compete/fill in the holes of private health insurance because it is "socialism". Real Ron Paul supporters that actually believe in a totally corporate run world, have to be against the post office, medicare, and libraries, to have legitimate problems with this reform to not sound insane.

The fact remains the same in America, as it does in most 3rd world countries, that the major burden on health care doesn`t fall on illness, but on non-treatment of illness because of health care problems. Heath care has gone beyond the "pussy" left agenda to look out for all Americans, to a point of saving money by keeping workers healthy; ergo productive workers, especially with 2/3 of bankruptcies being health related it is now a huge credit issue of being able to insure the American work force to keep them healthy and contributing component of the U.S. economy.

This is not a single payer health care system(which has been shown as a very effective system in many countries), which gives the Right no reason to fight it. If they are truly proponents of fair competition they should accept government competition instead of giving a couple of corporations the monopoly on the market.

p.s. for the people that say that doctors deserve to drive benzs to their penthouses because of their 7 years in school, start treating me my friends that are spending 7-10 years getting their masters and doctorates in mathematics, phyics, and engineering the same and I will gladly accept your point of view.

funberg: sadly, you have absolutely no concept of what the free market is if you think ANY government-owned "company" can be a part of it.

Bill Maher wont tell you what he really thinks, he is paid to convey a viewpoint that is choreographed by the same ones who pay him to keep his mouth shut about any real truth. He is only allowed to inspire people to run in circles and never present a solution that will actually work.Kill yourself Bill Maher.

Funberg, im sorry man but your way off. You cant send a letter for 42 cents, the USPS had a $2 BILLION loss last year, so you payed 42 cents for your stamp and you will pay an extra dollar in taxes to make up for that loss. we spend some $17,000 per student, up from $10,000 years ago, and only have lower overall school performance to show for it.

Ron Paul DOES have a problem with medicare, the post office, and libraries. they are funded through taxes the government has no authority to be taking from the people. district run libraries are fine, funded on local taxes.

the idea of government competition is insane as anything government run has no budget and can reduce prices below real competition and just make it all up with a budget deficit that no private company could compete with, a la the post office.

the true and concerning fact of the matter is EVERY SINGLE area the government has involved themselves with has seen prices increase and quality decrease. everywhere. every time. with no acception i can see. when the government ran the phone companies everyone had black rotary phones that sucked, when it went into the market place quality increased substantially.

If single payer healthcare i so great, why do SO MANY Canadians come to the US to seek immediate healthcare bacause 1. Private healthcare is Illegal in Canada, and 2. thye cant get treatment for up to 4 months sometimes unless they get "approved". Let me ask you something funberg, since when do you have to be "APPROVED" to recevie medical care?

If this universal healthcare system passes, you can say hello to marxism. I`m sorry, but dipping into Medicare`s current funds to start this universal healthcare plane is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Medicare has its problems, but regulations on insurance companies can help fix things. SINGLE PAYER SYSTEMS are not the answer. Regardless of how bad medicare is, it can be improved.

No offense TechHead but you should read Marx. And its not regulation and more government that we need, we need less tax breaks for large heath care business and remove subsidies entirely. if small health care companies could compete with the big ones it would all work itself out. health care is the ONLY industry where prices dont drop as technology increases, this isnt because its necessary or some twist of fate its because lobbyist, insurance companies, and health care providers are all in cahoots to keep prices high to benefit all involved. if small health care business and clinics actually had a fighting chance in the market place they would drive the prices of these normal procedures way down and you wouldn`t even NEED insurance for normal health care, just for critical and huge expenditures, like it SHOULD be.

everyone seems to be focused on how to help people pay these exorbitant health care prices by fucking those who pay taxes instead of doing whats proper and necessary to let the market bring prices down for everyone.

look at the USPS; crap service, and crap prices that go up every year. now look at cell phones. the size and capability of the modern cell phone has increased many FOLD since inception with prices drastically dropping. you can get a cell phone for $30 in a 7-11 today. you think the government had anything to do with that? no, its by letting the market and competition do what it does best. when cellular one was going bankrupt did we subsidies and bail it out? hell no! they got bought out by someone who knows how to run an f`ing business.

hmmm.. republicans on board? why do they need that? Democratic president, majority Democratic Congress, and it is what the people want, shouldn`t be a problem. Oh yeah, maybe its because ITS NOT WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT.

LOL, health care like Cuba.. If you don`t want anything Sanitized. Dumbass` that probably listen to the one side never whole truth telling, Michael "piece of shit" Moore.

maybe "what the people want" is fucking irrelevant? has anyone considered that? we don`t live in a democracy people. if 51% of you fucks want me dead you don`t get to kill me. we live in a constitutional republic, and im happy to say, there aint a damn thing in the constitution that provides the federal government with the power to do anything even close to this. well, it doesn`t give it the power to do about 90% of the shit it does.

give me liberty or give me death.

Well first, that survey of "62% of Americans want a major overhaul of healthcare"...well, duh, but did you ask them HOW they wanted it changed? There is obviously something wrong with it, but I doubt the many different solutions have that much approval.

Second, I support some to most of Ron Paul`s ideas, but I don`t want a "corporate run world" like someone said above...I want a United States run on the Constitution! It specifically states that the Congress can create post offices, which is why their poor "business" performance of continual losses is barely tolerable, but nowhere does it allow for any sort of government healthcare. If the Congress or people want to make an amendment, which requires over a two-thirds votes to approve, then that truly shows the will of the country and I`ll shut up.

Finally, I want to know when it became acceptable to believe someone besides YOURSELF is responsible for your own health. Yes, costs are too high because medical education is too expensive, which means doctors are paid a lot, and new advances in technology are expensive because of lobbyists and monopolies, so maybe the reform should be there. Anything supported by the government and taxes means the responsibility is shared between you and your neighbor, which why paying taxes for the common defense is specifically stated in the Constitution.

But it is DEFINITELY not MY responsibility to pay for your treatment if you don`t take care of yourself. I am not going to pay for the complications of your obesity (America has the highest rate already), and I am not going to pay for your treatment if you don`t wear a helmet when you crash your bike. Ideally, a person`s family should take care of them when they get old, but we`ve lost that sense of familial responsibility and respecting your elders. I`m sure most people on here applaud those who take out a certain percentage of their taxes that reflect the Department of Defense budget, but maybe a wave of taking out a percentage of government-supported healthcare taxes will begin...

^ "Ideally, a person`s family should take care of them when they get old, but we`ve lost that sense of familial responsibility and respecting your elders."

No actually, we sold that and nearly every other value straight down the river of corporate greed. It`s called having a "mobilized workforce". And it means having high unemployment, therefore an employer`s market, so that anyone will do anything for a buck. Ideally moving and living anywhere for ANY job no matter how poorly paid.

We have broken any true human or traditional meaning of the word family, community, or society in the name of profit.

I`m not sure I get the direct link between greed (or corporate greed), worker mobility, and family responsibility, unless you mean selfishness. Yes, it is sad when some people work 60 hours a week and spend less time with their family, or they have to move away from their family home for a job, but they can still fulfill their obligations and responsibilities to their parents and own family. You can take care of your parents by paying for a health care facility or an in-house nurse. For low income families this would definitely be more difficult to impossible, but then also having the ability (or need) to move large distances to a job would be difficult, so it`s more likely they`re close to their parent`s home (I would think).

Selfishness is definitely a vice, but I should be more giving to my own family than to a stranger. And the government should never force my charity.
