Chomsky on Health Care - Why reform has ...

A poll today shows that 63% of Americans favor government influence on healthcare, with 36% opposed. Chomsky explains why it has taken so long for reform to become politically viable, despite overwhelming support. Ideas of "socialized" medicine being inferior is merely propaganda propogated by profiteers of the current (and horribly broken) medical system which, at its current rate, will become unsupportable by the USA economy in the next decade.

If bmw`s were free, would you still consider stealing the one your prick of a neighboor owns?

"But the central problem is that most Americans get their health insurance through their employers. This dates back to the era of post-war wage controls, when firms offered benefits instead of pay rises. Today’s tax code sets it in stone. Employers can buy health insurance with pre-tax dollars. Individuals cannot.

This creates an agency problem. When a typical patient goes to the doctor, he has no idea what anything costs. He pays only about 15% of the bill, so if the doctor recommends something he will probably say yes. The doctor gets paid for everything he does, so he has a powerful incentive to perform costly, unnecessary procedures. Besides, he may be socked for damages if he omits a test that a lawyer subsequently convinces a jury might have been useful. The costs are passed on to insurers, who pass them on to employers in the form of higher premiums, who then pass them on to workers in the form of lower pay."
-The Economist

I find it hard to respect Noam Chomsky. He is a man of undeniable intelligence yet he would omit alternative explanations to a problem that wouldn`t necessitate his socialist means. He`d rather stir up trouble and pit people/classes/groups against each other. Asshole

He says Medicare is inefficient because it must work throught the private system. Absolutely not true. Medicare works on a different level with doctors. It basically has its own system and it is failing. Socialized Medicine will cost 1.5 trillion over 10 years and that is a lowball figure. Obama already stated they don`t know where the money is going to come from.

This guy talked for 7 minutes and said nothing.
