Can`t agree with his verdict, but can`t say I think its bad reasoning either. Both great movies.

Gotta agree with this for the most parts, but still think Jack is the one and only joker. He`s got that psycho look that comes off naturally and the everlasting grin that makes him perfect for the role.

Here is my verdict

Keaton > Bale

Ledger > Nicholson

Gough > Caine

Oldman > Hingle

Music, Batman = Dark Knight

Story, Dark Knight > Batman

They both have strong openings and strong finishes, but I have to go with Dark Knight, just because Ledger is just so fucking awesome.
The one thing I really don`t agree with him is Vicky Vale beating out Rachel Dawes. Vicki was just a screaming damsel in distress (which he did acknowledge) and I didn`t think she was very interesting where Dawes was much more assertive and could hold her own. But hey we all know they are both great movies, so lets just agree to disagree and enjoy them both.

Ledgers joker was the performance of a lifetime and stands out from the rest of the film by lightyears. But, he worked hard to create intricate schemes, that`s order not chaos. It was more like a character that belonged in a different film, being hunted down by morgan freeman and tommy lee jones perhaps? Nickolsons joker was truly insane, commiting greater crimes for absolutely no reason, at random, and not even a shadow of human emotion. That`s chaos.

A little off-topic here:

I have heard a few people say that the dark knight was impossible to follow. Those people now are all incapacitated.

PLEASE! If someone you know cannot follow a great plot that moves quickly you have my permission to beat them on the head with whatever you got.

@Venomousvole

I get what you`re saying, but I have to disagree. Nicholson`s Joker was simple and his insanity was all on the surface and it came off in a nonsensical way. Sure some people with psychotic breaks probably behave this way, but they`re easy to see and they don`t get far. Ledger`s Joker was focused, brilliant and completely sociopathic. He had a deeply distorted view of mankind and was hellbent on proving that his view was the sane one, and that the rest of us were the insane ones.

Ledger +1

christian bale sounds like he`s talking through an orgasm. Pulled the same shit in the new terminator movie. I swear to god when he said "I`m ........ Shawn conner!" I thought he was gonna say "I`m bat man!" honestly it sounded like he forgot who he was playing for a second. I swear he almost said Bat man.

My main problem with The Dark Knight was the Two Face anti-climax. It made the movie run too long.

Well the jokers reflect the biggest fear at the time. Psychopathic serial killers (particularly those with power and links to organized crime) were the mythical real life supervillains during the 90s. Movies and comic books looking for "realism" always had some senator or corrupt governor who deep down was a perv or murderer e.g. sin city and all those crappy thrillers with Sandra Bullock.

Today terrorism is the big fear and Heath`s Joker reflected that. Except he didn`t have a religion or political ideology, he was like Nicholson`s Joker, he just did it to do it. The execution however was different.

Heath was a reflection of 9/11 and "modern" terrorism while Nicholson was a reflection of Saddam Hussein`s chemical attack/The tainted tylenol scare and powerful and creepy corporate/criminal dirtbags.

The 89 batman was closer to a comic book re-imagining made into a movie. The dark knight on the other hand is closer to a movie re-imagining of batman rather than the comic book batman character. Which one is better depends on your preference.
