There stands a brave man. I`m glad he`s got a spine, and does more than just try to please a crowd.

I agree completely. The party system in general is a farce and doesn`t represent properly.
I think Bill missed one of the most important issues why America is fucked up: Education. We have shitty teachers that you can`t get rid of, we have teachers that do the jobs of nurse, mother, teacher, babysitter, security, etc. Teachers are asked to do things they have NO training for and the parents think these men and women are like Gods with their abilities to know their child`s needs. Parents are retarded, the kids are retarded and yet they all get praised for such a wonderful job they`re doing.
Last month there was a video on Spiked called Barcelona - 1904. Someone commented "they`re dressed like they have a sense of pride in themselves."
Americans are proud of their name, but they don`t live up to it. Everyone has the sense that because they`re born in America they`re special in some fucked up way. Fuck you and the horse you rode in on.

I like Bill Maher. His show seems much more professional than a lot of what you`d see on regular cable. There`s less shouting and people can actually finish their thoughts. He asks people tough questions and, in general, doesn`t seem to allow a lot of bullshit.

Only problem I have with him is how much Obama worshiping went into last season`s show...and how now, he seems to back up from it a bit with his mantra "be loyal to a principle, not a person".

Here in Canada, we`ve got multiple parties to vote for. I find the system acceptably representative of the population because there is variety, choice and options. The American political structure however, is black and white... and it`s becoming gray.

he makes fun of Obama, but i have not seen him bash policy or say Obama is doing things "wrong". but i have not watched much recently. i hate the stand up bits he does as his monologues generally suck ass. the only part worth watching is the discussion with the panel and the interview/questions via satellite.

Brainwave, umm..despite the 4 main parties in Canada (NDP, Liberal, Conservative and Bloc Quebecois) the huge number of chairs owned by Liberals and Conservatives make it that it`s always between these two parties in every election.

@Brainwave. I think the party system is just fucked in general. We need to amend the constitution in both the US and Canada stating only people with common sense and with intelligent can vote. And you don`t vote for the person, you vote for the POLICIES. If the people who are to implement those policies don`t do it during their term, get rid of them and put in someone else. Im glad that in Canada the religion debate hasn`t extenuated to the point that the US has taken it. Makes my balls cringe.

Seriously, though. V is right. "People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people." We need TRUE democracy. PROPER debates. People need jobs, make jobs. People need water, people need shelter - build it but at a cost THEY CAN AFFORD. Put a little common sense back into Congress and the Senate, the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

@Nose Nuggets.

He bashed Obama on his drug policy about a month ago. And spot on about the monologues / interviews - except when he had Mos Def as a guest. Fuck that nigger needs to shut the fuck up.

Valaur:
Bill Maher is on American TV, and is an American. Therefore, there are a lot of Americans who think like him.
Unfortunately, there are also americans who think like Nancy Grace and Bill`O.
Your comment kind of pissed me off because it shows your own ignorance of the people around you. Not everyone in your country thinks like you. There many different walks of life in all countries. However, in some countries, unlike the USA, those other views get censored and covered (Don`t argue, "Well, in MY country they don`t"). This happens everywhere... but it happens less in countries where freedom of press is granted, because there are always media owners wanting to make a buck, and all of them are ready to put stuff on the air that people want to hear, despite whether or not the government or the rich want to hear (I feel sorry for China and N. Korea).
I am not saying monopolizing media and political lobbyists are a good thing, just that capitalism at work makes for a more free society. As the free media revolution continues to grow (Spiked.com is an awesome source of this), my generation, and younger generations (who grew up with free media, never knowing what it was like to go to Blockbuster to get a VHS once a month), will continue to disallow power hungry and censorship (it`s for the kids!) hungry players to gain control over what we see.
Net Neutrality Fuck Yeah.

@dweebster

You`re pissed that I`m dissing the common American? You`re pissed because the system that both our nations have is a piece of shit? You`re right, if capitalism is used properly there is much more freedom. Except it`s not. A fuckton of people are making deals behind closed doors to increase their profits at the expense of the consumer. I have no proof of this because the government refuses to regulate and make these companies ACCOUNTABLE.

I`m ignorant for generalizing, you`re ignorant for not waking the fuck up and smelling the coffee.
