Creationism v. Evolution?

An intelligent religious view on the subject at hand. Everyday I see in the comments on the "Atheist Experience" basic evolution hurled as a weapon against religion.

Well at least he`s on the right path with some logic going. But still, deriving a bunch of "probably`s" aren`t sufficient enough to let religion have such a huge impact on your life style imo.
Also, you can`t just ignore immoral concepts such as "believe in God or go to hell" AMONG so many others written in Genesis. Just because you don`t take something literally, doesn`t mean its core meaning is different.

Edit: alifeva1, that quote from Einstein is only contradicting you (you`re using his quote to support your view) and that`s twice you use a quote from Newton. For someone that wants to give support, you don`t have too much to say for yourself.

You already chose a side... and logistics is mathematical, you`re thinking of "logically". And to prove and disprove is actually quite important... it`s the base for scientific exploration, the pursuit of objective truth.

^^I totally agree. But when you have people going overboard by imposing their views on others (which is what mainly Christianity has been doing for centuries), you kind of have to disprove them.
I don`t mind people believing in whatever they want, but when their beliefs start affecting MY life (or the lives of others), that`s where it crosses the line. This guy seems to be one of those that keeps to himself though, so I have respect for that.

It`s also a matter of showing whole truth and not keeping secrets or brushing off "unimportant" matters/events that are in fact important. Most politicians do the same thing.

"that quote from Einstein is only contradicting you"

How? Seems pretty straight forward.

"don`t take the bible literally"

-See, this guys I could get along with :)

I did vote him down a little for misrepresenting Einstein. Einstein did not believe in a creator, but instead personified the Universe as God...and not the other way around.

I`m thinking
"nat·u·ral·ism
n.
[...]4. (Theology) The doctrine that all religious truths are derived from nature and natural causes and not from revelation."
(dictionary.com)

Not saying that Einstein was a Naturalist (since I don`t know that), but it sounds similar to me.

I can pretty much go with what the author of this vid has to say.
To my understanding, science does neither prove nor disprove the existence of a god since he is not measurable in terms of the scientific method. (However, it is able to claim that his/her/its/their existence is not likely.)

I`m with Domagos on this one - I don`t mind personal belief as is, but I damn do mind if someone tries to impose it on others.
The thing is that religion, in this case to be seen as distinguished from belief in a metaphysical being, tends to distort the perception of reality, distort reasonable thinking. However, the plain belief does not necessarily do that.
Still, to insert "god did it" as a universal solution to so far unanswered question keeps us from investigating.

And I said it before, I`ll say it again - if there IS a god, I think the highest form of service we could do is to question and to try to figure out his creation.
If there is not - you did something for yourself and most likely the people around you.

I`ll check out the video soon but it`s really hard to have a debate as I believe in what the bible states, that is my personal belief and getting into these arguements usually resorts to "Don`t bring your bible into this, it isn`t scientific evidence" but I do not rule out the theory of evolution to a degree, I do rule it out as being the origin of life however. I think I can only agree to disagree on this.

^ Just out of curiosity, do you believe the parts of the bible that justify slavery? How about the parts with the talking snake? What is your policy on un-wed, non-virgin girls? Should they be stoned as the bible states?

Can the bible misused into the justification of slavery? Absolutely. The talking snake? Yes, I believe this, I`d be a hypocrite to state otherwise. My policy on whether un-weds or non-virgins should be stoned to death? Let the ones who are without sin cast the first stone.

ALifeva... I think you lost me a little.

You know Einstein doesn`t believe in BIG G "God" right?

He sees the Universe as so amazing, he gives it a spiritual personification, not unlike Spinoza`s God.

But the idea that Einstein believed in a personal God is just plain wrong.
Enjoy the beer and movie.

@Like OMG, so do you think the millions of Christians who think the Snake story is just a story are hypocrites?

Just out of curiosity, what is your theory on the fossil record and geology?

Did I miss hear him, or did he say the `planet` was 20 light years away based on GRAVITATIONAL PULL?

I`m just going to assume he meant spectroscopy.... or that his gravity statement was in regards to how they measured the planet`s rate of rotation.

Otherwise that would just be impossible to measure.
