In January this year, Wim Hof ran a half Marathon (21 km) above the polar circle in Finland. He wore only a pair of shorts and no shoes. The ground (snow) temperature was 35 below.

Very interesting but please someone answer this question for me... was there someone else before him who ran pretty much naked in the snow for a half a mile less than he did? And was not wearing any shoes really necessary? At least he caught on and decided to wear shoes in the next marathon.

was it not possible to have some sort of explanation? even if it was just how he warmed up physicaly and not how he does it mentally. Since i thought the way you warm up is shivering (kinetic..)

This guy isn`t really special in terms of being to heat himself up. Hell even I can do it. But congrats on him being able to run the marathon barefooted. That takes balls.

As to controlling your body heat it`s a lot about meditation. You know how you suddenly start sweating/get heated when you get surprised, scared or shocked? It`s a mental trigger that also probably has something to do with adrenaline.

Weirdly enough I could also trigger/stop adrenaline whenever I want, it`s more of a sports thing than meditation. Keeps the body more calm and focused when you need it.

I did a better video once using nothing but photoshop and a pear of shoes.

Seriously the video was so low quality the guy looked like he was photoshopped onto the terrain.

I think that is really quite impressive. I`ve recently started running and I Have a hard time running 10km in perfect weather conditions with shoes. Though I usually don`t bother with pants...
