i call BS. someone give my some rational explanation for a cell phone igniting gasoline vapors. spark? do you know what happens if you throw a lit cigarette into a bucket of gas? it puts the cigarette out.

^ Yeah but the vapor is what burns, get a gas can and shake it up and then open the lid with cigarette in hand and see what happens. He was looking in the top of tank and who say`s it wasn`t a lighter he used for a light and not a cell phone anyways.

^ the vabor is what ignotes. the gas burns as well. gasoline vapor has a much lower flashpoint then fluid gasoline. but its really besides the points. i still dont understand what about a cell phone can ignite gasoline vapor.

a lighter is far more probable.

Looks like he dropped something into the tank just before the explosion. You can see him reaching in, then as if anticipating the explosion, turns away with his arm shielding him..

The cellphone rang, he dropped the cellphone in the tank, tried to reach for it but it was still ringing and that ignited the explosion due to electrical current. (Kinda how you ignite a C4 with a battery)

Some people claim that cell phone radio waves can somehow trigger gas explosions. Scientists have been sayign it`s impossible but a minority believe it can happen .

You see the guy messing with something in his pocket. One description I read when I first saw this video on another site claimed that was his cell phone going off and him either hanging it up or messing with it.Some argue either the electronics, the battery or the "radio" waves (for lack of a better term) triggered the explosion. Like big foot movies, this is supposed to be the conclusive proof.

There`s no proof or scientific backing to the idea that cell phones can ignite gas vapors through the radio waves. It`s not 100% disproven but extremely unlikely. It`s hard to tell whether the battery heat, the electronics or static from the phone or his clothes triggered it.

^ Or just upload the episode of Brainiac where Hammond blows up a fuel soaked caravan by rubbing his feet on carpet and touching a wire leading out of the caravan with his fingertip.

Mythbusters tried this in all possible scenarios. The only conclusion is that people are fueling, hear their phone ring, get into the car to get the phone and generate static electricity doing so.

As for the battery being dropped into the fuel, although it is highly unlikely it is possible. And I`d have to say that if it wasn`t static, we saw the highly unlikely happen.
