Never underestimate the increase of religious behavior in soldiers under stress of battle. It`s actually easily observable even in cases where these men and women are simply put into an environment which they can`t truly adapt to because of the hostility that it radiates.
Where I come from, religion isn`t a big deal. About 50% of the German population, according to a study of the European Commission from 2005, are either agnostics or atheists and still, the above shows in our soldiers in Afghanistan - even though they by far aren`t as threatened due to their kind of service than, for example, U.S. or British troops.

However, this increase in faith and the expression of it results in higher sermon attendance and/or a higher probability of questioning your own life, only possibly in sense of a religious question.

Point being: The above is what military chaplains should be there for (which the German military has - wearing uniform, but not participating in combat). They`re supposed to give strength, encourage thinking and spend comfort.
The chaplains I met during service all accepted that I am an atheist, and although they listened to my thoughts, discussed them with me and gave me new ways to think about, not once the term "god" came up.

Their job ought to be to take care of the comfort of the mind - of their own troops. Not to press their interpretation of salvation onto people who deem that as blasphemy.

yeah people think about their own mortality when in these situations a lot more and the chaplains do a good job . same as an atheist counsellor would do to anyone who needed to speak or bare their soul so to speak . this is not a crusade and using the excuse that we are trying to lead a just war in the name of jesus etc is false . its about an oil pipeline and power

I saw a video that showed these evangelicals talking about their "crusade." In the video is also showed the military policy saying that its against the rules for soldiers to do what these crazies are doing.

A former soldier left a comment on the video saying they called those guys the "God Squad"
