Static was originally a comic character from DC`s import Milestone of the mid-90`s which featured many black superheroes and was groundbreaking in its realistic portrayal of street life due to the many black writers and artists on staff. Unfortunately, this "separate but equal" universe was considered bullshit by many for segregating with the DC universe and was shut down. DC has recently rectified this by including several key players back into the mainstream universe. Static Shock is a very neutered TV version of a very awesome comic.

I thought the best Milestone comic was Blood Syndicate which was a comic about super-powered gang members. Of course it was far too fucked up with sex, drugs, and violence to make into a WB children`s cartoon.
