Technically Adamantium Claws isn`t a mutant power. To those even more geeky than me: before he had Adamantium infused to his bone was it ever explained why he had bone claws?

Maybe this is my inner comic kid talking...

But the fucking movie? Wolvering issue 75 is when you find out. The movie fucks up all sorts of lore regarding his past.

75 is when he loses the adamantium. Long time readers like me wondered what would happen now that he "lost his claws". This was a time when we thought his claws WERE adamantium. But then Logan takes on some training bots and -bam-...

The scene of his screaming, bone claws and blood...

Naw. Movie doesn`t have jack on the epicness of that revelation.

You can find the trade called "Origin". It explains that Wolverine and his brother were both born mutants with retractable claws. As a small child James Howlett (Logan) was very sickly and often not allowed outside. At some point in his early teenage years he discovered he had the claws and his healing powers manifested. He started life a very niave and weak person only to grow into the man he is. The back story makes a strong case for how he could go through so much hardship and continue to fight for the right things.

#75 was an epic issue and it shocked alot of readers at the time, but it brought up more questions than it answered. Also, the Guys at Marvel knew they were going to make an X-men movie and they didn`t want hollywood to create thier own backstory for Wolverine and butcher the charectors legacy. Hence, Origin.
