As soon as they start researching their claims properly I might start taking them seriously.

It`s a shame that the message they are trying to bring across is caught up in some other agenda they are trying to bring forward, the first few minutes of this video outline what will be the fall of humans.

The rate at which we consume things is staggering, our planets sustainability at our current trends is impossible, we will, and I mean we will have no more oil in the next hundred years, we will have no more tungsten and other precious metals, we are consuming everything we will need in future years to survive right now all in the name of profit.

80% of world materials are consumed by 10% of the population, more economically developed countries are sucking our planet dry faster than ever before, and this abominal misuse and misallocation of resources is accelerating, it is following an exponential growth trend, and us being the only ones to stop it looks unlikely that humans will be around on this planet much longer.

Though the zeitgeist movement is a going about things in an odd manor, we need to realise that this planet, our only sanctum for light years abroad is running out of time and fast. We as humans have to stop consumption at this level now, we need to realise that we can no longer have 3 or even 2 cars, we need to see past the perverse nature of our current seleves and understand that we have to sacrifice our way of living in order to ensure our survival as a species.

It is no longer use warning us, we see videos here on spiked all the time about corporate greed, and global destruction, and we hope that people like Obama will save us, people of spiked not government is going to save our planet, no humans are willing to sacrifice their standard of living to save our planet, we need a miracle now more than ever, and though it may sound lame and like a cliche we are doomed.

Money = Liberty?
or
optimization = Slavery ?

----------
After seeing that movie, there’s a valid question that rose in my mind…
What is the place of human beings in that plan?

Where he sees “total” freedom; I see “total” slavery…

If you give me total freedom, as a software engineer I would love to work for free and built new and better softwares and machines for others, but if I don’t want to? If I want to travel the world the rest of my life, discovering the mysteries of the planet; then what? You’re all going to pay for that awesome trip? I don’t think so…

What that implies is: I “MUST” work to contribute to that system for “IT” to sustain my travels. And with a “MUST” and an “IT”; I see slavery to a machine…
-----------

Money by itself doesn’t exist; it’s the representation of the world resources. And use free market to balance those resources.

Does it absolutely bring scarcity, greed and other problems?… yes; I have no problem believing that. But here’s the thing, as human beings we have the “CHOICE” to change, to evolve, to be better. If I have the choice saving money by dumping toxins in the sea, that’s PURE liberty. Liberty to do Good or Evil. But that’s why we have laws in our countries to prevent that.

And as crazy it might sound; it’s a VERY important thing for us. We are not all here to just live and die. We’re here to explore and evolve. That’s the duality of liberty. What if we didn’t have the German anti-Semitism revolution? One side of that would be to have saved 50 million lives. Yes! But at the same time we found SO MUCH about us. Our lives as they are now would be TOTALLY different.

Discovery and experience must always go hands to hands.
------------

Can self-sustainability be achieved with money?
Can productivity be achieved with auto-motivation?
Can fairness around the world be achieved with a society of consummations?

These are all questions I don’t pretend to have answers but must be solved and QUICK(5 to 20 years max). But must be achieved by us… not by a all-knowing-crazy-computer (it’s my domain so I gagged on that one :P, our best robots now are as smart as an insect(and even then is a overstatement))
1- We must keep regulations HIGH!
2- Protect all our vitals resources no matter what our needs are;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Island#Destruction_of_the_ecosystem

3- Elect an administrations in power(NOT ONE MAN, this is fucking stupid);
4- Redistribute money into the population to stabilize the society;
5- Create work force “Syndical force, onions“ to give force back to the workers;

…and finally leave the rest to US the people… we’ll find a way.

***EDIT***
I was curious about the anwser to those questions; so I post that text to thezeitgeistmovement.com forum:

They do have some good points when critiquing capitalism, like the section about machines taking over the labor market which start at around 26min. I recommend to see that part since it shows a very real problem with "the system". But some parts are just rather silly and don`t really show any actual problems, sure perhaps flaws in the current system but most if not problem which associated directly with capitalism.

i just have one question if the monetary system is corrupt & we can`t have one world currency because its the new world order then were do we go from there.

i guess its just the Hippy life for everyone whether you want to or not.

how can this be anti-spiritualist when some people today concerned about these very same issues take it to far?. (by that i mean how some new-age believers/gurus see the environment as a religious mind-set).

there actually are a whole lot of us who are willing to sacrifice our standard of living if it means elevating the standard for all. Because some of us are intelligent enough to grasp the simplest of concepts that rule reality: It`s better for everyone if we all do well. If you have to fight for something, no matter what the out come, it is a loss compared to dealing with the problem without waring. The win win situation will always be best. It`s a thing called the Non Zero Sum game. Learn it. Your life literally depends on it.

A resource based system is a beautiful and idealistic concept, one I fear today`s generation would never accept and clearly by some of the above comments, this is true.
Greed and Fear are way too popular.
I do wish he covered a few other topics such as overpopulation,or what to do with all the free time of 6 Billion humans, if machines literally take over all manual labor, he mentions education, which would be incredible, I would gladly go to school and learn for the rest of my life, however it is fairly obvious that many would not validate that as the only purpose of human life.
Even though an AI system was touched upon, a global one with multiple inputs, easily done through internet, or cellular communication, or even mentally would be amazing, and possibly save lives, and even personal AI`s that we could interact with on a personal level, I think that would be incredible(If anyone has read any of Arthur C.Clarke`s last novels the Sunstorm Trilogy, I am mostly referring to the Cell Phone AI`s).
How to trust that same AI mentioned, responsible for all of our day to day, programed by humans.
As Sci-Fi as this Venus Project sounds, I would love to see it come into its own, even on a small scale to show the benefits of such a system to the mostly ignorant public, this actually isn`t a new idea, it`s been around for a while.
I`m so sick of business, of advertising, and the general pessimistic/apathetic attitude of the average person today,
sick of the corruption and lying that is fed to us,
sick of government telling us what is for our best, and especially the absolute HYPOCRISY of government.
I absolutely adored the idea of contributing to, and joining the scientific group that is responsible for maintaining the technological forces that would run these systems, it really is the best way of giving something back, and the point that there really is no true democracy is spot on. Not only do we as citizens contribute nothing but electing leaders, but how often do those leader`s actions actually reflect what we elected them for in the first place. Is thinking for ourselves actually as unpopular as it seems?

We need a fresh start for the 21st century, humanity is still evolving, and now has to evolve socially in order to survive, lets just hope we do so before we cross a threshold we can`t return from.
Thank you for posting this video, seriously.

Fuck it. Get high then die. Life itself is cyclical, it can`t exist in environmental equilibrium. Self-replicating matter is demonstrably solipsistic and competitive by its very nature. If you really want a perpetually sustainable world, let`s see just how committed you really are... Kill all life. Get the universe back to the peaceful, docile place it was before those pesky amino acids started fucking everything up with their self-serving tyranny.
