Like C. Hitchens and G. Orwell say: [If you`re guilty] you`d be willing to give up any- and everything. But what if you`ve got the wrong guy?
You might say, we only torture the guilty. But that conclusion can only be reached by the judicial process. If you want to start torturing convicted inmates, that would be another discussion.
But currently, we`re just torturing random afghani taxi cab drivers. Because, most of the people in gitmo and other secret prisons are delivered by our `contacts` in the middle-east [in exchange for a large sum of money].

It`s equivalent of saying your neighbor is a jew/gay/dissident/part of the resistance in WO II [in europe]. Sure, you`ll get some food/money/power in exchange; but it`s a witch hunt.
Oh, and the ticking timebomb scenario: Torturing is a ticking timebomb, nothing else. ANYBODY can be a threat to ANYONE else. They just need motivation. Like: Those guys are evil [ie. they torture], let`s kill as much of them as possible.
