This really is a fantastic look into North Korea. There`s 13 other parts that are well worth the watch. It`s pretty shocking stuff to see.

Watched all 14 parts and it was really interesting. That`s the second film crew that`s made it in in the last couple years, so all their security is not doing so well. I felt really bad for the tea girl :(

Loved the series. I had a look at organising a little trip for myself to get there and it is feasible, just rather hard if you wish to stay for more than 2 days but still possible. It must be such a surrealistic thing to experience.

Ive seen this series before. I am still wondering at how they were able to film it. Were they allowed to? Doubtful.
The guards must of noticed something was up. They probably got their stuff searched. Kinda hard to hide all that camera equipment. Your allowed to bring only a basic camera, and even then your not allowed to use it all the time.

Friend of mine went to NK a few years back. He and his friend were introduced to a dike a few miles long. They were told the construction of this dike had confounded engineers for months until the great leader Kim Jung Il showed up and found a solution within minutes. Hail the great leader.

Unfortunately, my friend came from The Netherlands, where there is the Afsluitdijk which is many times the length of that insignificant dike in NK. So they had to stifle their laughter and pretend to be impressed. They did so well, they got a medal of honour - a small broche with the picture of Kim Jung Il on it.

When they showed up in their appointed hotel for breakfast the next day, they did not have it on - staff warned them it showed great disrespect and they may get imprisoned for this. They hurriedly got the broche and put it on.

And now for something more interesting; you could have a look on the internet if there are some mass gymnastic shows on youtube from North Korea or the Czech republic. It`s a hell of a show.

interesting, but i could`ve done without all the assumptions... maybe those kids were being imprisoned in that school for the state but maybe they weren`t. clearly they`ve gone overboard with the construction, but the lack of grafitti and people pissing on the subway were impressive. at the opening ceremony to the olymipcs thousands of people do a coreographed performance, they do their best to put on a good show for the honour, is it impossible that the north koreans have the same motivations?
edit: oh yeah and they`re way better karaoke singers...

What I think NK is is just the remains of an abandoned, broken machine that is still partially functioning.

To this point I wouldn`t be surprised if the government itself is just as delusional as the population about the dire state of the country and/or too spoiled and decadent to realize it or do something about it. And because of measures already put in place, everybody is forced to act like everything is fine. And whoever is not delusional pretends to be in fear of the very severe repercussions. The head of the chicken has been cut off but the brain stem is still there keeping the damn thing alive and somewhat walking around completely unaware of all the blood it`s losing.

In other words, NK has turned itself into an extermination camp without even being aware of it.

It kinda reminds me of Aperture Science from the game Portal. The whole place is abandoned, forgotten about, isolated and falling apart but a still functioning insane computer AI is still doing horrible things to some people inside the lab without realizing that all of this has become completely pointless.

Part 5 - The Tea Girl; wow, that was so sad. Just the look in her face as she waves goodbye to the only REAL people she`s probably seen in months and not knowing when she`ll probably have contact with more.

Both North Korea and Afghanistan have been of intense interest to me and I really appreciate clips like this. I despise the horrible situations so many North Koreans find themselves in as a result of this dictatorship, but at least they don`t treat their women any worse than they do their men (as far as we can see). God knows Afghanistan doesn`t have a female military. Always nice to see chicks with guns, even when they`re incredibly brainwashed.
