Vanuatu - Clash of the Prophets, tells the story of how a bizarre "cargo cult" was started, and is to this day in conflict with a rival group. As mentioned by Richard Dawkins in his infamous book. This cult recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary.

Just remember, when some one tells you that Christianity or Islam (or numerous other religions) must be true because People saw Jesus, or wrote about some figure later, you can just point them to the John Frum religion.
No evidence he ever existed... and we have a splinter group 50 years later? Awesome :)
