BBC Horizon - How to Make Better Decisio...

Part 2
We are bad at making decisions. According to science, our decisions are based on oversimplification, laziness and prejudice. And that`s assuming that we haven`t already been hijacked by our surroundings or led astray by our subconscious!

Featuring exclusive footage of experiments that show how our choices can be confounded by temperature, warped by post-rationalization and even manipulated by the future, Horizon presents a guide to better decision making, and introduces you to Mathematician Garth Sundem, who is convinced that conclusions can best be reached using simple maths and a pencil!

"We are bad at making decisions."
perhaps instead of oversimplifying, say SOME people are bad at making decisions, instead of just assuming everybody is how you are.

Statistically we are poor decision makers. Don`t get your panties all up in a wad.

try "Predictably Irrational" by Dan Ariely, it has some decision making experiments and it`s also fun.

honestly, the 20 dollars for keeping, 50 dollars for winning. i would just break down the odds and wins in both situations, to which, in both situations, i would have had to gamble the 20 to win 50. it only makes sense. if i was allowed to win fifty on 20 with 50/50 odds, over and over. you would make money, hand over fist, playing over and over again.

i dont think this would change in either regard. i do believe there is a gene for ppl who are likely to gamble. i dont have it, ive lost a total of 25 bucks to gambling in my life. (and gained 60 lol.) and i would gamble in both these scenarios just because of the odds being in my favour. i would always gamble with the odds/winnings in my favour, you are just never presented with that, because the other person WOULD lose money.

Think about it neon.

In the gambling scenario, you have a 100% chance to win $20 if you walk away but only a 50% chance of winning $50 if you play. With odds like that I would walk away every time.

I feel sorry for that lady. Loosing spontaneity in life, that would suck. Seriously I would buy her a magic 8 ball, so she can use it on less important decision making, like should I whack my annoying kid in public.

We make mistakes, cause we are human. Only creature seems to make mistakes, because it also emotionally driven. But we tend to learn from our mistake or we take the risk again for a bigger gain. We like taking risk cause we look forward to the outcome. That is why we are most the advanced creature on the planet. The Wright brothers had an emotion driving them to fly. And look where we are now, if they didn`t take that risk.
