I think the producers of the show were forgetting one CRITICAL thing:

Humans wouldn`t be around either.

I think it goes without saying that they were shooting for a "What if dinosaurs were around and so were we?" I highly doubt they overlooked the fact that we are mammals, and were just shooting for a more extreme hypothetical situation.

For more human-saurian cohabitation, just go to your local library and borrow "Dinotopia".

stating the obvious!
my god, what a waste of time, resources, people and money!

let`s ignore the awful ignorance that humans would have come into existance if dinosaurs hadn`t gone extingt but all the other mammal species would have... just thinking about this gives me headaches!

the whole build-up of the show, was a cheap recut of the splendid documentary-series "Walking With Dinosaurs"! adding some second grade wannabe archeologists and a dimwit farmer makes it even worse.

the sad thing is, that the show tries to be serious... worst thing I`ve seen on spiked in a while....

and vote me down if you think: "duh... but yeah it was pretty cool to.. uhm.. see dinosaurs with like, you know, humans like living together!"

BULLSHLACHEN!

"Can a Dinosaur Be Milked?"

No, seeing as they weren`t mammals.

It firmly states that the presence of dinosaurs would disallow mammilian evolution...but why? At no point does it justify that conclusion.

I have to agree with NatalieParsnip to a certain degree. Assuming that A) Dinosaurs were reptilian/cold-blooded, and B) The great asteroid collision that most scientists agree caused the rapid climate change that led to the extension of most dinosaurs, somehow didn’t happen in this scenario, there’s no reason to suggest that normal gradual climate changes and continental drift would not have occurred. Thus, just as today, there would be areas of Earth where reptiles couldn’t live. There’s no reason to suspect that mammalian life could not have developed, if not flourished, in these colder areas. While the original mammals in such a scenario would have probably looked substantially different than our mammalian ancestors, it’s highly likely that the advantageous traits that have shaped the features of the current inhabitants of Earth’s colder regions would have been equally advantageous in this hypothetical scenario. So, over time these mammals would probably have evolved to look very similar to cooler climate inhabitants of today. Would Homo sapiens have evolved? Probably not as we currently exist, but given that mammals wouldn’t have been able to evolve to the point where they were either larger, faster, or stronger than dinosaurs/reptiles, it stands to reason that if a branch of the mammalian tree did evolve larger brains and increased intelligence, this would have been one of the few advantages that would have allowed a warm-blooded species to compete with dinosaurs for food/territory and migrate to/inhabit the more fertile regions of the Earth, which would allow this species to flourish and (hopefully) continue to develop and evolve.

Thoughts?

There stands a 65 million year gap between ourselves and the dinosaurs. Evolution by Natural Selection uses time to sculpt its masterpiece. Therefore, even if it was the case that dinosaurs never experienced the great extinction, I contend that dinosaurs as we know them would be completely different. I dare say humans and every other animal would not be here. There are just too many variables and uncertainties - the mechanisms embedded in the Evolution by Natural Selection process.

@red heaven, not to mention the dinosaurs would have evolved. so there would be no tyrannosaurs and tricerotops.
