US Woman Gang Raped in Iraq

Story of a 20 yr old Halliburton employee who was drugged and gang raped by co-workers in Iraq.
Apparently this is not an Isolated incident.
If these animals behave like this with their co-workers, what chance do the Iraqis have?

Crimes like this make people hate us. Makes them want to kill us, us evil perverted vermin. I would even want to cut off the heads of assholes like that.

And when scum like that represent us abroad, it puts us in great danger. Crimes like this should be punishable as treason, and blood must flow, to show the rest of the world clearly on which side we stand. When these are silenced, it only stands as proof to our enemies that their hatred and determination are righteous and worth any price.

I am every bit as against Islamic fascism as anybody, but we MUST take the higher ground, or they may as well be right.

In middle-east, only one type of justice rules and that`s a sniper rifle. Good hunting.

That`s right Exploder, while this happens to women all over this planet, regardless of religion, race or country. The problem with the conventional western legal systems is that they are just that `Legal` systems not `Justice` systems. I have observed over time that the current system is decaying at an increasing rate. I feel that the problem is that the consequences of being caught doing wrong, just aren`t preceived as being harsh enough to warrent restraint. The whole threat of being put in gaol just doesn`t cut it any more. To get a meaningful response from your population you need to send a message that if you do terrible things, terrible things will be done to you. For what I feel is an excellent model to start from, do some researching on the Indonesian punishment system. Introduce these laws to American society and see how fast you get results.

^ SpoogeP, I agree that our legal system is decaying, but can`t agree that harsher punishment is the solution.

First off, we have improved our society by STOPPING punishments that are worse than the crimes. Especially if you consider that many laws are imperfect (many anti drug laws), and that much crime is the inevitable result of other social factors like poverty and mental illness. Harsher punishment just takes those already troubled people, and cruelly hurts them even worse than they usually are by life. Punative justice is an epic fail unless you take it to unconcionable extremes. By the time it works you are mostly repressing hurting people by application of sheer terror.

It seems that the real disconnect is that the lawmakers are all such wealthy winners in our societies, that they can only imagine a legal system of sticks, because they already live in a world of carrots, where their only real incentive not to cheat is sticks; easier just to reach for another carrot. But for the masses who live in a world of sticks, one more blow seems inconsequential unless it is torture. They are getting hit all the time anyways, so they might as well snatch for that rare carrot whenever and however they can. Too many jailed people have spoken of three square meals and a warm dry bed, for me to ignore the prior suffering in their lives.

Secondly, it is sad defeat to say we are so lame that we can`t create a world where crime is less desirable than lawfullness for most, not just the wealthy class. Really. I know we can`t engineer some perfect crimeless utopia. But our shortsighted bias for punishment is only a sorry afterthought of our shamefull denial of the FACT that poverty creates most crime, and that we have a MASSIVE poverty problem. It`s more positive to assume that we could eliminate most crime by positive means, and only sadly resort to punishment as an admitted failure to attain more worthy solutions.

Lastly, what I`m talking about in these rape cases coming out of Iraq is abuse of authority. These people are assigned positions of power and public trust. They are on the job, a critical job, and we are paying their extravagant wages. We trust them to do good, and instead they wrecklessly betray any human decency, and thus severely damage our national credibility and imperil our safety. It is a flagrant abuse of honour, decency and trustworthiness, whether the crime was rape or otherwise. That it was rape, and so violent, screams out a message of extreme and utter disregard of all humanity.

Any tolerance or leniancy to these crimes, or hesitation on our behalf in persuit of these monsters to a swift and blood end, will only powerfully reenforce the already pregnant knowledge of our enemies that we are an evil people to be destroyed at all cost.

Doing anything that materially strengthens these convictions seems like treason to me.
