I think Hitchens is one of the most excellently blunt and to the point athiests we have for the cause. He cuts like a knife.

^ a serrated knife coated in acid
I feel bad for anyone who would debate him, he is articulate to the point of intimidating.

Great interview.

For those of you who don`t know George Stroumboulopoulos is a former VJ in Canada that worked for Much Music (MTV equivalent). He left in 2004 to go on to bigger and better things as much music basically started sucking. He started up this show "The Hour", moving from much music to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in 2005 and it has taken off, winning lots of Canadian awards. The guy has been able to get some amazing guests, including movie stars, internationally well known politicians, authors etc. His interviews are always great, he has a very different style from his colleagues. I find it hilarious how a very important politician will be his guest, wearing a 3 piece suit, but he will still be in his jeans, t-shirt, and with his piercings. Yet he always maintains a professional interview and asks some hard questions. Its great how he has taken a young generation like mine and gotten us interested in learning about important international issues.

5/5 for the hour.

^ well said sir. Couldn`t agree with you more
At the movie theatre, Famous Players / Cinemaplex - they always play a snipit of The Hour. Always enjoy these interviews.

I was raised a Baptist, forsake my religion when I was 12. The fear of nothingness is a powerful force, as Christopher points out quite blatantly. No life after death? BLASPHEMY!
I`ve read "the holy bible", and understood it`s messages. I understand how people can see this as the word of God, but when you see the Old Testament... wow. The church I attended had anyone under 16 years of age FORBIDDEN from attending any reading from the Old Testament because it was so murderous, it was so bloody.

Humans are so low, are so pitiful and underdeveloped yet we put ourselves on such a high mantle. It makes me pity my children and my children`s children if and when we make contact with an advanced species. When they look at our archaic ways of worshiping something that isn`t there and cannot be proven, that we have areas of this world in utter poverty yet a smaller population living in absolute luxury, yet bitch about everything. That we have this illusion of elections yet we have utterly no say in what goes on in our government.
I`ll bash religion as often as I want, but I won`t preach to them. I`ll explain my beliefs, and that`s that. I`m not on a mission to convert people like religion does. I want the generations after me to not have to suffer through the mistakes that we as a society continue to make.

cpsman, it`s quite funny that you mentioned that. I am actually quite impressed with the host of the show. I didn`t expect to hear such well formulated thoughts from a guy who looked like an ex-VJ (and he is!). When I first saw him I expected a rather empty interview but was pleasantly surprised.

And of course, Hitchens as always is fantastic. He`s so barbed, which can alienate, but what he says is absolutely the truth. His criticisms have foundation to them, unlike faith-based arguers. He utterly destroys them in debates.

Speaking of which...anybody have more Hitchens debates? Off to youtube to find some!
