yeah, cut off too short... but amazing footage. I did a quick search to see if I could find another clip with more info.

Apparently this is from 2005, but the first I`ve seen of it. Three people were on board.

What the hell just happened? The airplane didnt hit anything, the wings just... flew off. Some neglect in production of this particular model?

Every airplane has a maximum speed at which it can fly in turbulent air; with fires raging, the air is most certainly unstable. If you exceed that speed, you immediately become a test pilot, and bad things can happen. Not to say that an airframe can`t handle it for brief periods of time, but if you`re pushing the limits, and flying with a possibly compromised structure, then...well, u see what happens. This C-130 airframe was investigated after the crash, they found fatigue cracks in the wing structure.

I`m a pilot, my opinion of the crash is he had not enough fuel in the wings and too much water in the belly of the aircraft and the bending moment of the fuselage with no down force acting against the production of lift with regard to the wings lead to structural failure. A very easy mistake to make, its called a maximum zero fuel weight and it is primarily for this reason.

What do you think of thedude007`s comment?

^Yes it could have been very well attributed to fatigue cracking and such, however the biggest one I would think would be after many hours in the sky burning their fuel load and filling up with water constantly they adversely affected each other and subsequently saw the aircraft`s demise. A lot of the time an accident could never have happened with just one event, most of the time it is a line up of many events and thus leading to a disaster. It`s called the "Swiss cheese" model, you know, all the holes in the cheese line up and then boom. Accident.

They`re not dropping water, they dropped fire retardant, the wings ripped off after the release of retardant. The analysis of this crash points out that they were light, and they were in the process of pulling up after release. The pilots would know well in advance(I hope)if they are going to be exceeding MZFW throughout the flight, and would adjust accordingly during preflight.

signs point to structural fatigue: (bottom of page)

This is sad...that must be a horrible thing to go through. It must be even more terrible being related to one of the persons who died and finding out the video of their deaths all over the internet...
