Thats not quite the version I heard.

What I heard: The "snakes" were actually pagan Irish, given the name for the snake tattoos the men or holy men had on their arms.
These people were converted by force as a religious mission given to Saint Patrick by "God."

My personal thoughts are that anyone who claims to hears voices is either a liar or a schizophrenic in this sort of situation.

I also think he probably bore a bit of a grudge against the pagan Irish because he was -enslaved- as a teenager.
What a better way to get revenge then systematically oppressing an entire culture of people with violence and dogmatic fantasy?
(Not that religions do that ALL THE TIME or anything /sarcasm)

Can`t confirm the snake bit, it is rarely mentioned but there are references in some things I`ve read on the internet. If anyone can find some decent info on the pagan/druid snake tattoos this is a subject I am very much interested in.

5/5 for making me think. Thanks!
