Don`t judge. The kid likely in his mind thought that he had to literally launch his legs horizontally into the air in order to kick it, probably from what he saw on those football games on TV. So naturally he`s just "building up" energy for "liftoff" with those weird leg motions of his.

Had he not watched a single football game, he probably would have kicked the ball just fine. But kids are funny like that.
