People shouldn`t be afraid of their governments, Governments should be afraid of their people. - V

this is why life in europe is so much better then here in north america (or more specifically, JUST the States).over there, if people dont like something, they fight to change it. In the states, everyones a bitch, afraid to act out.

That`s part of why the standard of living is so high in France. People protest ALL the time. Here in the states, So many people act like sheep that you`re "unAmerican" if you speak out against the government. I really wish people would get pissed off enough here to turn this ship around. Vive la revoulucion!!

^^ Maybe thats what its like for you guys but its quite the opposite where i live... Maybe there are MORE protests in Europe but there are still PLENTY in the US everyday. Just because you dont see them on the news or in person doesn`t mean they dont happen. Only hicks think if you protest your "unAmerican", where i live there use to be protests for gay rights almost everyday. And still you can go downtown and on most days still see people protesting on war or somthing. Of course im not saying this is how it is everywhere, But what you guys said about protesting in America doesn`t apply at all for my town (Northampton, MA)

^^^ Agreed.

Just because you can`t see it doesn`t mean it isn`t happening. `News` just isn`t news anymore. The individual has to research what`s going on in the world.

Amen for spiked!

lol standard of living high in france, the same country where 15000 elderly people died in a heat wave.

union leeches drive away jobs with their anti-competitive protectionist garbage. is it a surprise no business wants to set up shop in continental europe? and here you have a bunch of spiketards ruminating about the coming revolution, lol.

whenever sony leaves france entirely those "workers" can go back to collecting welfare, in the true european fashion.

Those "union leeches" are the same people that throughout more than a century have made sure you parents didn`t have to work 12 hours a day, in dangerous conditions and for just a few cents, you pathetic little shit. And of course businessmen don`t want to deal with people who demand to be treated as human beings. Neither did slave owners until justice was done.

As for protests - there are plenty of them but the corporate media, including CNN and New York Times avoid to talk about them as much as possible because social struggle is bad for business and CNN and NYT are businesses, not public services. So it`s hard to people in USA to connect and congregate when their efforts are so atomized.

did seriously no one else notice that the source was "al jazeera". i`m Pakistani, ridiculously liberal, and even I can tell you that that`s not a trustworthy source.

really? those people who demand and receive two months of vacation a year and push for xenophobic protectionist policies are the same ones who instituted the first labor laws? there is no connection, shithead.

marxist labor theory has been thoroughly discredited, do yourself a favor and stop blabbering about "social struggle", it`s really pathetic. stratification of society in europe can be attributed to the socialist governmental policies, not any kind of capitalist "oppression".

is it a surprise the US economy really took off after the passing of the Taft–Hartley Act while Europe lagged behind? or when the British economy finally caught up when the stranglehold of the trade unions were smashed by Thatcher? union pawns such as yourself are historically ignorant.

HAHAHA, we wont rise up in the US. are you fucking mad? if there was ever a time to stand up, its passed. we allow torture, rendition, no one enforces the constitution anymore. how much more before you stand up? or are you just like everyone else, waiting for someone to follow? because ill tell you now, its EVERYONE who is waiting to follow. everyone that sees something wrong, anyway. which still isent enough.
