Helicopter Accident Evaded

This is a Turbine Enstrom Helicopter on the Heli Pad of a Greenpeace ship some where off the coast of Ireland. One of the deck straps has not been released correctly, with what was very nearly disastrous consequence. Pilot skill and quick thinking saved the day.

If this is in a die hard movie the tail rotor blades will take that guy`s head of clean, with messy blood spills.

And nope, the pilot take off before the strap is remove, pilot error :P

i think he didnt take off intentionally but because of the heavy sea as the ship fell into the wave through.
and the fact that the tail rotor hit the ground saved their asses, otherwise he would have dived straight into the ship.

Doesn`t look like there is any strap which has been left attached. With the way the helicopter banked it would have to be attached to the front of it and you can clearly see there is no strap on the floor or dangling form the helicopter, looks like it was an involuntary take off due to heavy seas, as suggested above.

Doing a little research shows this is not the only accident this helicopter has suffered. Check out, http://www.aaib.gov.uk/publications/bulletins/october_2007/enstrom_480b__n4

lol green peace using helicopters and ships that burn carbon based fuels!

me thinks their remit is to make money from suckers not to protect the enviroment as they claim.

I used to be a greenpeace supporter... until i realized they were spewing bullshit about nuclear power. Now I just see them as a bunch of fear-mongering idiots (maybe just misinformed if I`m feeling generous).

Nuclear power is the future of clean, efficient energy and the only way to put an incentive on decommissioning nuclear weapons("There`s fuel in them thur bombs!"). Yes, the waste is toxic... but at least it`s compact, easily detectable, and securely contained. No, we don`t REALLY have a place to put it all yet... but that`s because the assholes keep writing up litigation to stall approvals and make the problem even worse! At least we`re not dumping waste into our water and atmosphere.

I`m all about wind and solar but ask a greenpeace rep about how they can keep a full-time baseline energy supply and they`ll say clean coal... yeah right. So you don`t mind strip mining for coal? Where are you gonna store those captured emissions? You know those are radioactive and highly toxic too...

Sorry... I`m a liberal but I have a vendetta against anti-nuclear organizations these days. What were we talking about? Women helicopter pilots? Oh right... yeah it looks like the boat is dipping hard when the chopper lifts off so it was probably an accident. lucky guy right there. This is too long and off topic... feel free to vote me down.
