AH1 Cobra Gunship

Air action from Vietnam. "Profile of the two-bladed, single engine attack helicopter manufactured by Bell. The AH-1 is also sometimes referred to as the HueyCobra or Snake. The AH-1 was the backbone of the United States Army's attack helicopter fleet, but has been replaced by the AH-64 Apache in Army service. Upgraded versions continue to fly with several other users. The AH-1 twin engine versions remain in service with United States Marine Corps as the service's primary attack helicopter."

The U.S. lost the Vietnam war because of its lack of leadership. LBJ wouldn`t allow air strikes or aggressive land maneuvers inside Northern Vietnam until of course the NVA had erected substantial air defenses and by then the opportunity had passed. Case in point fight a war to win it, not prolong it.

You dont need to look far to see how air power inside North Vietnam had little effect. If you look at the various air campaigns, such as Rolling Thunder, you will quickly see that air power held little stategic utility in the Vietnam War.

Whilst the air force was used to great tactical effect, the war was lost due to a miss understanding of the style of war the US was fighting. Prior to Vietnam the US had not encountered substancial irregular forces, had little conception of "hearts and minds" and subsequnetly failed to secure and police villages to prevent communist subversion.

^ Airpower is what brought the Vietnamese to the table for the cease fire.

Once the US pulled out, they dropped that cease fire and took over South Vietnam.

Wow, a more efficient way of killing other humans. Go us!!!

Do you not see how stupid this all is?

Fucking jizzing over stupid ways of killing other human beings, is god damn crazy. We were wrong with the vietnamn war. As with the last 3 wars we`ve been in since.

People who get sentimentle with human killing machines are gross and gay.

Well Muufley, what should it bring back memories of? A largely pointless war that ended years before I was born?

While you go jerk off to people dying, I think I`ll go enjoy my flight simulators thanks.

Bluelight83 writes "Airpower is what brought the Vietnamese to the table for the cease fire. Once the US pulled out, they dropped that cease fire and took over South Vietnam. "

Or you mean, after 2 centuries of being occupied by the French then the Japanese, then the French again briefly before the Americans, the Vietnamese were again - finally - in control of their own country. I like to think that America lost because ethically they deserved to lose for their opportunistic attempt at moving into a bankrupt French colony and trying to force their view of capitalizm down the throats of a popultion that really didn`t want it.

In any case, despite their "losing" Americans do not continue to suffer the radical birth defects, or incidents of cancer from exposure agent orange and American kids don`t get their limbs blown off from left over mines.
