there`s pretty much no such thing as the best guitarist "ever". Even if there was i hate to sound like an asshole but this guy wouldn`t even be mentioned. There really isn`t a lot thats special about this guy, he`s definitely good but there are really tons of guitarist i could name that have more skill then him.

I would probably give that award to someone like Shawn Lane, there is nothing that man could not do on guitar. Big fan of Mohammed Suicmez too but he is not quite a versatile as Shawn.

I know its his style, but it is a bit twangy. He could put his guitar through a Big Muff Pi distortion pedal or something to give it some bollocks.

you know the best is all a matter of opinion. i have been listning to him since i was two. he has a very distinct playing style, but if you are looking for the best name a ganra<sp>. you have eric clapton, bb king, jimmy hendrix, the guy from metalica, and this list of amazing guitarists could go on forever. great yes best no.

Sorry pet hate here..i know its completely a matter of opinion but in no way should Kirk from metallica be considered the best guitarist...I love metallica but just no. His solos are like a bastardised version of Hendrix but without the balls. Pretty much allllwaayys stays in the pentatonic box, it is also anoying the way he tries to cover up his mistakes with a wah pedal. I actually prefer James`s solos to his, the one in nothing else matters is beautifull.

Theodore Ziras is amazing too, the best technique I have ever seen, but his songs are pretty dodgy. Really nice guy though.

^ thank you for that. i totally agree with everything you said there. finally someone who knows the difference between a good guitar player and a good musician. some of the best musicians in the world arent the most "talented" by any means. good music isnt about playing as technically fast as possible.

and yeah, i hate kirks wah solos. zakk wylde said it the best when he said that "wah should be used like vibrato, its just to accent, you dont play a full solo in wah, that just covers up imperfections"

i agree that is a big title to fill. Mark himself sez he lacks speed and wishes he was faster. and clapton does help anyone in a live video. but HENDRIX still rules. you dont agree listen to live red house
