hey an intelligent comment! hopefully to answer your question, the brain doesn`t really contain energy, but it uses it to transfer information. an analogy could be made to the wire to your headphones, it contains electricity when something is telling the speakers in the earpieces to make sound. if they`re off (you are dead), there`s no electricity being produced to go anywhere, up or otherwise. also if energy was released when we die, and that energy was causing the universe to expand, then the earth would remain stationary, or even move southwards, since most people live in the northern hemisphere. this is not the case, measurements have shown that the expansion if the universe is occuring similar to the way the skin of a balloon does when you blow it up, with nothing in the middle. as for comforting thoughts, though we don`t become a new star or anything, each of us leaves behind countless marks on the world. every time u`ve inspired or hurt someone, dug a whole, lived somewhere, discoevered something and shared it, taught ur kids morals etc etc, u`ve changed the world. what you do in ur life here now matters, and remains forever.

I kind of like the fact that Stephen Hawking is in a wheelchair and talks with a robot voice. It makes him more interesting, like it`s a movie or something. It just seems fitting that the greatest scientist of our time talks like a robot. Makes things seem more futuristic.

All of Hawking`s answers are pretyped out on his machine. All he needs to do is select the appropriate response.

Awesome video. I completely agree with Sagan on how he feels about the School System. I myself had this experience which made me view teachers and such as hypocrits at a very young age. I was 6 years old when I decided I wanted to learn about Philosophy and Cosmology, and despite the fact that I was told you can be whatever you want to be and make your own decisions in life, when I decided to exert my individuality and wanted to learn philosophy and cosmology, I was then told, no you cannot learn this now, you have to wait until you get to college, we don`t teach this here, this is what we teach. One of those subjects happend to be French, as I am from Montreal Cananda. Suffice it to say, where I grew up, it was entirely English and quite frankly I suck at language. I certainly speak and write English near perfectly, however, I don`t remember having to learn it.

I have a star trek-like saying on this matter. "I`m a logician, not a linguist." All kidding aside, I was forced to drop out of high school at the age of 17 due to the fact that I just cannot grasp the French language. Whereas my knowledge in Philosophy, and Cosmology still grew as a direct result of this wonderful time period we all live in.

I personally feel that the school system should be redesigned to make things more exclusive. Each child should be put through a simple set of assessment tests to determine their strong points and weak points. There is no sense in teaching a child something that they aren`t good at, and in all likelyhood will not be interested in as a direct result. This is why there is such a high drop out rate and why a large percentage of students just don`t want to be in school. It just isn`t fun to be there. However, if students were able to learn about the things that apply to them, then things would be much better.

All in all the main reason it isn`t like this has less to do with equal rights and/or equal opportunity and more about making sure the status quo is met. Ensuring enough people get just enough of an education to fill in the low paying jobs. We do not live in a world of academics but rather a world full of business. So, simply put, it would be bad for business if everyone recieved a proper education. We would end up in a world with a lot more experts and the multi-billion dollar corporations wouldn`t be able to stay in business.
