The Simpsons to Break US Record

Animated comedy The Simpsons is to become the longest-running prime-time series in US TV history after makers Fox ordered another two seasons.

The show is currently in its 20th season which matches the record of Western drama Gunsmoke, shown on CBS, which ended in 1975.

The 21st season will begin in the autumn with the 22nd airing next year.

The Simpsons was first shown in December 1989, and made its UK debut on Sky in September 1990.

The new commission of 44 episodes over two seasons will bring the total number of shows to 493.

The popular cartoon, featuring Bart, Homer, Marge and other residents of Springfield, has received 24 Emmy awards in its 20 years on screen.

i just dont care anymore, i loved the simpsons as a kid and now the newer episodes just fail at making me laugh,

i end up needing to get my kicks off offensive and racist jokes on family guy and southpark

dont get me wrong, the old ones are class, but the new ones FAIL

I feel you Neo214, I love the new Simpsons episodes, the humor is incredibly clever yet subtle. Only a fucking idiot wouldn`t find it funny.

If I want dumbshit, no-brainer comedy that relies desperately on "shock humor" I`ll watch predictable tired-ass Family Guy episodes. Even though Family guy has the most simplistic formula I have ever seen on a show.

Wow I personally love both Family Guy and The Simpsons. In fact if you look at the ratings when family guy was revived back on fox it stole some ratings from the Simpsons. Then the Simpsons started changing the humor to a lil more adultish wit. Then that started a whole Issue with mothers. I think there both great shows honestly.
