Rocket-Powered Aerotrain

This French concept of a jet engine powered monorail vehicle was first tested in 1969. It could reach speeds up to 185 MPH / 300 Km/h. This video is courtesy of DiagonalView.

I like how the paneling on the track at the very beginning is flapping around, that looks really safe. Also, did they think about anyone that lived within about 4 miles of that having to listen to all the time?

The panels where flapping around cause of the jet exhaust. they where layered like roof shingles, and the exhaust was going against them, but not the friction of the vehicle., the track might have been concrete with re-bar, and steel paneling.?
who knows, and how safe was that kinda stuff back then anyways..
neet vid, cool vehicle but usless.

Clearly cloth hanging with metal bars in them to help from blowing around, not paneling. Plus I think this thing hovers, using magnets or the jet power.

I`d like to point out that rockets and jet engines are two different things.. and I`m a bit confused on the rocket part.. you can see the intake for the turbine on the front, then they strap this huge rocket on top.. looks a bit silly, all that to get another 100mph?

a rocket would have been inefficient. Jets operate better at higher altitude. I think there`s a train that using a jet engine or turbine that produces electricity to power the train.

rocket would be inefficient because the train itself would have to carry the fuel. jet operates just fine on ground level, at higher altitude (depending on how high you`re talking about) only works when there`s enough oxygen. both would generate lot of noise.
