Weapons Programs Re-branded

Weapons programs re-branded as jobs programs As unemployment in the US rises, old War on Terror appeals to national security are taking a backseat to economic justifications. The US military industry has adjusted to this new reality by crafting its requests for government funding on the basis of its capacity to provide employment. This despite evidence that military spending is one of the least effective means of job creation.

Expanding military budget economically sound? Can I get that in writing so I can wipe my ass with it.

Expand any part of the nation budget and jobs will be created. The question isn`t which department will stimulate the economy most, it`s which one will put the least amount of American money in foreign hands. In America`s case only the private sector can MAKE money. To put this into a metaphor, the American economy is like a sink with one faucet and two drains that flows money. The private sector controls one of each and the government controls only one drain. They`re responsibility to us is to shove a cork on their drain and make sure the pipes stay clear. The Bush Admin has put the cork on the wrong drain. The military deserves to be cut to at least one tenth its current size.

Man I just "LOVE" the job security I get from the army. I mean what other field of employment to you have a guarantee to be sent to do the job you are trained for no matter how badly you or your supervisors suck at your job. And once you finnish, many years of work in this field you can either be promoted through having avoided any real action or you can go home with several limbs missing and/or such horrible nightmares that you can no longer function as a human being.

Also don`t worry about pension because even though you will most likely be living on the street or on welfare you always have the knowledge that your country cares on that 1 day that they all pull out their flags and decide to say thank you, or if there is someone questioning the actions of the government and they are told that they don`t support the troops but the government does. Those moments are just so special and thankfully they are becoming more and more common. In general its just the best fucking job in the world.

Only thing better than it is to get an education or to use your own ingenuity to create something positive that will hopefully fulfill you both financially and emotionally, although this route means you HATE the troops and want the terrorists to win. /major sarcasm

"A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction...
This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence β€” economic, political, even spiritual β€” is felt in every city, every statehouse, every office of the federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together."

Dwight D. Eisenhower
