This is the town that I grew up in as a child.

Edit: Thanks to the mods for renaming the vid. Contrary to the description, I did not grow up in Kinglake. But Marysville suffered a similar fate. I can upload that video too if you guys are interested.

180+ dead. 1000+ homes destroyed. Compleet suburbs just gone.

Last night it was 66 people dead and they still havent gone through all the affected areas checking for bodies. Its the most horrific natural disaster in Australian history and it looks like its just going too get worse in the coming days. Any ausies reading this, have a heart and give what you can to the Red Cross fir appeal 1800 811 700, nearly all of us can afford too give something. Go without your smokes or your beers this week, these people need it alot more than you do right now.

I am no bushfire expert but I believe I have a bushfire preparation and response plan that could result in ZERO fatalities if put in place before next bushfire season.

Surely there is someone in charge of bushfire safety management and they should be burnt alive for such a gross failure.

nOval33t, there are 21,587,648 people in Australia funny boy. Pack of smokes, $13. Case of beer, $40 to $70. I just used these as examples, anything people think they "need" they really dont (within reason).

bigbadjim, we get massive bushfires every year in Australia mate and no one dies, this was diferent. This fire was a freak, like a perfect storm of fire that no one had ever seen before. Our fire fighters at every level have stated that this fire acted in a way they had never seen in all their years of service.

Your right tho, our whole responce plan is going to be rewritten, but nothing could have prevented this.

i grew up in Lilydale and Healsville which are very close to these areas ,these towns are death traps due to the fact there is basicaly only one road into these places and due to the fact these are mountainous areas covered with mountain ash forest,the government/fire services doe not do enough burnoffs in the cooler months which would reduce the amount of fuel for these fires,also not much will stop these fires after a week of mid 40c temperatures,i dont think the fires themselves are worse than the ash Wednesday fires in 1983,its just a lot more people live in these areas now

The thing I fail to understand, If someone could please explain it to me, is how and why fire advances that fast?

@Cahu
Wind. That`s what made it so bad. Strong, hot winds pushed the flames so rapidly that it caught people off guard and it moved alot faster then they could escape.

I`m living in Melbourne and I can really feel for these brave people who`ve lost everything. My family and I have already pledged money and will probably pledge more. Anyone else in Australia, give them a hand!
