that`s not a lake. that the permafrost up north. it stores large quantities of methane and as soon as the global climate change causes it to melt and release then we`re in a whole lot of trouble. methane gas is a much more stronger greenhouse gas than CO2

Methane is formed by rotting vegetation etc. The covering of ice traps the methane making a small hole in the ice lets this escape as in this video. When the ice is not there the methane is dispersed by air currents so no fireworks possible.
