^maybe but it`d reduce the price hence crime related to drug. You don`t many people stealing to get money for vodka, not saying that it`ll eliminate crimes but it`ll make it less likely.

First lets differentiate between drugs and cannabis.

Whats the diff between any hard drug and any legal deadly and extremely addictive drug on the shelves. Getting drugs couldn`t be any easier right now for people. Its easier to get drugs than to get alcohol. It gets delivered to my door.

it costs aprox $17 per inmate daily at a min security facility. There are aprox 1mill drug use offenses = $17,000,000 a day

I hate dealing with my dealers because they are free to control the markets without any regulation or quality control. Get it through you head that eliminating drug use is impossible. The more the government chases it and looks for the more valuable it becomes in the black market and more people will get involved because of the high cash flow.

the dutch government has a saying that I like

"we`ve successfully made cannabis boring.

I don`t disagree that it`ll decrease price and by correlation decrease crime and organized crime. However, increased access and reduced prices to drugs will increase the number of drug users. That seems like a fairly logical conclusion. I`m neither for or against but I suppose something needs to change.

^Netherlands made pot legal, they saw an increase in users for a little while and then it decreased. Canada has either the highest or at least one of the highest rates of pot use in any western nation and it`s illegal here. If it was made legal here you would also see a boost in pot use, although you may not see such a decrease in use as the netherlands has seen since it is a fairly mainstream substance by now. Legalization would create many more jobs in BC and around Canada, both in sale of cannabis but more so in the production, refining, and sale of hemp and hemp products. Canada especially would benefit greatly from hemp products because it would grow very will in our environment, hemp can be used in constructing homes allowing forrestry companies struggling right now to move into a new market producing suppllies for homes that will be more energy efficient than those built of wood.
All things considered one of the greatest mistakes made in Canadian history is adopting the U.S`s drug policies spread through misinformation and fear, instead of evaluating the situation and coming to the reasonable conclusion.

"legalizing drugs would definitely increase drug use not decrease."

Even if this was true, it`s not the point. The goal is not to not make people do drugs, it`s to make sure the consequences of doing drugs are not as bad as they are today. The biggests risks are getting bad/wrong drugs(can happen when dealing with pills or fluids) and of course getting caught and being sent to jail. Both of these problems can be solved by decriminalization and state distribution.

The biggest thing that leads to drug use is society. Not drugs, drugs are a tool and a device that is used by people, but hardcore drug addiction is a result of upbringing, lack of self purpose in society, and a feeling of self destruction( this is for hard drugs, not pot). Making it a crime to do it only makes the problem worse, often making it seem more appealing in a self destructive way then if it was legal. the first step in cutting down drug abuse is to first convince the user that they are totally normal and fit in with society, even if they are addicts.

You can not argue with the numbers, and the numbers show clearly that legalizing drugs is the best thing to do to fight drugs. take the power from organized crime by letting the government sell it or dole it out for hte hard drugs, and let whoever grow and sell pot. If anyone can do it and not have to worry about being arrested, more people will do it for themselves and not have to worry about buying it from dealers. People smoke pot though, and will do it if it is illegal or not, might as well stop sending innocent people to jail over it.

I used drugs when I was younger because I was immature, stupid and had some problems I didnt have the brains to deal with, then I grew up and stopped using them.

Keeping it as a hidden problem only prollonged my use, if I was allowed to openly use drugs Im sure people would have been more aware and likely to step in and try to help me at an earlier stage, but instead its made illegal so its done in secret and you end up isolated with this problem with a group of other users with similar problems and its hard to help each other in that situation when you are all pretty lost.

So I think all drugs should be legalised, cheap and be more open about it in our society, you immediately stop the illegal trafficker trade and instead of ostrasizing and jailing the users help them find a better path to happiness, which what drugs is mostly about, an easy way to temporary bliss when your life feels like shit.

Drugs are definitely a waste of time and delay you from reaching a real life of happiness and fullness.

it truly worries me to see people defend the notion that the government saying these substances are bad and therefore illegal while these substances over here are 100% ok and can be sold in retail stores.

no substance should be illegal. the idea that someone should be able to determine what i can and cant put in or do to my body is amazing to me. this feeling of amazement is exacerbated by the fact that tobacco and alcohol are the substances our government deems `safe for public consumption`, especially considering the numbers. i posted this in another thread;

Annual Causes of Death in the United States
Tobacco 435,000
Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity 365,000
Alcohol 85,000
Microbial Agents 75,000
Toxic Agents 55,000
Motor Vehicle Crashes 26,347
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs 32,000
Suicide 30,622
Incidents Involving Firearms 29,000
Homicide 20,308
Sexual Behaviors 20,000
All Illicit Drug Use 17,000
Marijuana 0

"Illicit drug use is associated with suicide, homicide, motor-vehicle injury, HIV infection, pneumonia, violence, mental illness, and hepatitis. An estimated 3 million individuals in the United States have serious drug problems. Several studies have reported an undercount of the number of deaths attributed to drugs by vital statistics; however, improved medical treatments have reduced mortality from many diseases associated with illicit drug use. In keeping with the report by McGinnis and Foege, we included deaths caused indirectly by illicit drug use in this category. We used attributable fractions to compute the number of deaths due to illicit drug use. Overall, we estimate that illicit drug use resulted in approximately 17000 deaths in 2000, a reduction of 3000 deaths from the 1990 report."

The key part of drugs being illegal is the fact that the person goes to prison, the rest is moot, you can curb your addiction, you could take other drugs to help or you could just live you life but remember, doesn`t matter if its a one time experiment or a life time of drugs, get caught once, and your in the system and from then on you are fucked. They OWN your ass after that. In a free country, an individual should be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want to themselves(as long as it causes no one else bodily harm.)
If anyone thinks anti-drug laws actually keep people from drugs, you gotta a lot to learn.
And would legalization create more users? IMO i wouldn`t think so, normal folks aren`t gonna go out and think to themselves, "I think I wanna try meth, it did wonders for that homeless guy down the street!"
If you`re smart you`ll stay away from the poisons, but if you wanna kill yourself with crack, meth,PCP etc, that is none of MY or ANYONE else`s business.

BTW: Weed`s illegal cause they figured out awhile ago-> it makes people happy.

Maybe increase in drugs isn`t the point but I don`t like the misinformation that drug use would go down once legalized. Perhaps hard drugs like crack might see a decrease in use over time although its a different drug than marijuana. All I`m saying is that the will be an initial spike in use rather than this guy saying drug use will decrease right after legalization which is both counter intuitive and illogical.
