Maybe if both sides weren`t such a bunch of religious fucking nutjob fanatics, they would join together. Something tells me they would be better off working together than against each other.

those settlers and their supporters are total assholes. i think even if they weren`t religious, they`d still find some other justification for taking over the palestinian`s land. it`s probably about resources, and the religion is just a way to ease their conscience, if they have one. i also think that the former deputy mayor of jerusalem is right, it`s probably impossible to turn back. no matter who is in the wrong, the people there still hate each other`s guts and it would take nothing short of a miracle for them to agree on any plan. even if a majority somehow did, there will be people who will fuck it up for everyone else with violence
