Man Gets Fired For Racism On FaceBook

A NY public works employee got fired after posting racist remarks about Obama on his FaceBook page. He posted the content from his home but his page included that he was Borough employee and emails containing the images and remarks where circulated at work. Borough code says employees can be fired for, “conduct unbecoming of a public employee”.

If you want to be a racist ass go right ahead but use some discretion for Christ`s sake. This guy had more than 200 Facebook friends, including borough employees, a councilman, and a former councilman. What the hell did he think was going to happen. I am all about Cannabis law reform and think the war on drugs is a sham. However, I`m not going to scream from the top of Mount Facebook for my boss and co-workers to read about. Keep your private life private and you will never have to worry about stuff like this happening to you.

If you called your mom a bitch when you were a kid, I venture to type that you would have had the shit slapped out of you, no? That`s not an attack on your freedom to say whatever you want. Rather a consequence of what you said. If I walked up to you and started spouting off at the mouth and you reared up and punched me, I would not say you assaulted my freedom of speech. In that case, I had it coming.

Can you really fire someone for something on their personal page? He didnt bring it to the work place or a least they sad nothing of it. Although I have heard of employers checking peoples myspaces and facebooks before they hire them. The thing is anything you put on the internet, you should be prepared as a person for other people to read it or view it. Nothing is private on the internet.

It is one thing to be politically incorrect and another to be racist. Calling a black person a "nigger", a latino person a "wetback", or an asian person a "gook", is racist because one is taking into account all the decades of prejudice and hate that went into creating that word, yet one still uses the word in spite of this. Freedom of speech does not allow one to use whatever language one may be inclined to use, regardless of how offensive it may be. If what someone says threatens my sense of safety and security, I have the right to retaliate, be it through the law or through self defense.

I have a question . I agreed that this was overboard.

So If I say grape and orange soda is on the rise this day. OR that their is gonna be a lot more fried chicken ordered in the white house.

But I do see what he was saying was offensive to me as well. I just want to know what truely is racism because it seems to be context.

I feel for the city actually. No matter what they did, they are gonna get sued somehow.

They keep the guy on and reprimand him....someone sues them. They fire him, he sues them.

pretty weird. I don`t think you can just fire someone for being an asshole or an idiot outside of work. I hate to say it but I think the whole "N" word thing is going way too far in terms of how offended black people get when you say it. Who cares what some idiot says, don`t get so offended. I have a feeling that if these people get ignored they will go away and run out of anger eventually. It takes two to tango man. This is coming from someone who doesn`t have an inch of racism in me. You could call me any name and I wouldn`t deny it or care because I have enough self respect. Wouldn`t be surprised if Obama kinda felt the same way. Who knows...
